This is clerical work of moderate complexity involving the processing and issuing of various permits and providing customer services in the Planning and Development Department. An incumbent receives, reviews and processes applications for electrical, plumbing, gas, residential building, in-law suites and other permits issued by the Building Inspection Division; receives and initiates the application process for rezoning, subdivision, preliminary plan approval and other permits issued by the Planning Division; checks building permit or development applications for completeness of routine; calculates permit fees; receives by-law infraction complaints from the general public; maintains departmental records relative to current zoning, subdivisions, easements, study areas and other requirements pertaining to the development of a property and refers to same to provide related information; maintains and files permit and application records; prepares summary reports on permits issued and value; enters data into the Permit Plan System; receives calls for inspections and takes appropriate action. Performs related work as required.

Qualifications include completion of Grade 12 supplemented by or including standard commercial courses and courses relating to the work plus sound related office experience involving public contact preferably in a Municipal Building or Planning department, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Considerable knowledge of applicable departmental practices, procedures, rules and regulations and of the requirements of other departments and agencies relative to permit application processing, account classification and of recording and balancing remittances as applicable to the work; ability to deal effectively with the public, officials and staff; ability to work with limited supervision and exercise sound judgement in making decisions in accordance with applicable policies, rules and regulations.

This position is temporary full time until August 31, 2023.
