The CRA’s Audit Division is actively hiring experienced Income tax and Excise tax professionals for multiple, permanent, opportunities in Newfoundland which are anticipated to start as soon as January 2023.

Income Tax Auditor (AU0143)

Conducts income tax audits of complex large businesses including corporations, partnerships, and trusts. Works independently or as a member of an integrated team, to ensure compliance with the statutes administered by the CRA.

Excise Tax Auditor (AU0065)

Conducts excise tax audits of complex large registrants to ensure compliance with the statues administered by the Agency.


The pool established from this staffing process may be used to staff similar positions.

Essential Education:

The eligibility for a designation from a recognized professional accounting association OR a degree from a recognized postsecondary institution with acceptable specialization in accounting*.

Asset or Other Education Requirements that may be preferred:

Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation.

Successful completion or progression toward completion of the CICA In-Depth Tax Course or Masters of Tax.

EXPERIENCE

Essential Experience Requirement

A minimum of two years of experience (within the last five years) working in Canadian Income Tax or Excise Tax compliance within a public practice accounting firm, business, or industry relating to *large and/or complex corporations. Experience must have been gained through the performance of functions as a major part of regular job duties and should include one or more of the following:

  • Preparing, reviewing and/or approving corporate tax returns;
  • Auditing corporations to ensure compliance with federal and/or provincial tax legislation;
  • Interpretation of tax statutes administered by the CRA;
  • Providing tax planning advice
  • Large and/or complex corporations generally refer to corporations with gross revenues exceeding $10 million; however, each example will be assessed for its relative complexity based on the information presented on a case-by-case basis.
