JOB POSTING – COUNSELLOR ADVOCATE, FOCUS ON OUTREACH AND HOUSING

Agape House Eastman Crisis Centre Inc. has been providing essential services to Southeast Manitoba since 1985. As a charitable non-profit organization and one of 10 women’s shelters in Manitoba, we are proud to see an average of over 200 clients per year. We are committed to helping survivors of domestic violence make informed decisions that will assist them in leading lives free from abuse.

We are looking for a 0.9 FTE Outreach and Housing Coordinator to join our team. If you are an outgoing and enthusiastic individual looking for meaningful and exciting work, we would love to hear from you!

In this role, you will:

Provide public education on family violence and its affects within the Southeast Manitoba region

Conduct presentations for community agencies

Create and grow connections with external community organizations for advocacy purposes

Facilitate group programming to clients with special consideration and focus applied to serve the large proportion of Indigenous clients serviced by Agape House

Assist clients with individual goal-setting, safety planning, and other personal challenges

Management of interim housing units, including prepation of rental agreements, collecting rent, tenant walk-throughs, and maintenance coordination

Preserve clear and respectful communication with team members, clients, and management

Participate in staff meetings and debriefs

Ensure precise and detailed documentation

You have:

A Bachelors degree in Social Work or a related field

2 years of work experience at Agape House or related experience

Awareness and understanding of the issues of interpersonal violence and the cycle of abuse

Knowledge of the social service system and economic system

Clear understanding of confidentiality and supportive relationship dynamics

Ability to conduct assessments and advocacy from a non-judgmental and feminist perspective

Proven clinical and crisis counselling abilities

Excellent written and verbal communication skills

A satisfactory criminal record check and Child and Adult abuse registry check
