Job Location: Various Project Locations in Ontario. Travel Allowance/LOA as per company policy.

Salary: $96,300 – 105,000/year (based on experience); Salary increases as per company policy.

Job requirements:

Language: English

Education: A university degree in civil engineering or a college diploma in construction technology or equivalent experience in a construction trade (civil construction).

Experience: 3 years of related experience

Work Setting: Industrial and heavy civil construction (water and wastewater plant)

Budgetary responsibility: $1M.

Supervision: Up to 20 people, including construction workers, contractors, and subcontractors

Work Conditions and Physical Capabilities: Work under pressure, Tight deadlines, must be able to work for extended periods of time outdoors in various weather and environmental conditions.

Own tools/equipment: Personal Protective Equipment

Duties:

  • Execution:
    • Coordinate the details required in the development of construction strategies, project execution plans, schedules, and estimates.
    • Communicate consistently with subcontractors and staff the expectations and directions regarding schedules, construction methods, company policies and procedures, permits, safety/loss prevention, quality control, and other performance standards.
    • Assist with the review and coordination of the project safety plan.
    • Review the submission and revisions of project drawings with subcontractors and other superintendents.
    • Attend all pre-tender meetings.
    • Assist with the planning and preparation of project execution, inspection, testing and safe work plans.
    • Ensure that the project site and company assets are secure and maintain a safe and respectful working environment at all times.
    • Manage team members and assist with conducting performance reviews. Under the supervision of a senior Superintendent, carry out performance management, disciplinary action, termination, back charges and other required actions.
    • Review billable charges for materials and subcontractor requisitions, and obtain appropriate approvals.
    • Attend all Progress and Safety meetings with all subcontractor representatives and review and obtain agreements on upcoming work to be accomplished.
    • Ensure project closeout is appropriately finalized to settle all financial obligations, demobilize all resources, and transition the project to the client.
  • Planning and Process:
    • Understand the project specifications and general conditions of the contract, and confirm that all materials and work comply with the contract and quality specifications.
    • Advise Project Manager and other personnel as required with respect to changes to methods, materials, schedules and procedures.
    • Maintain a planning cycle one month ahead regarding materials, schedules, and crew.
  • Financial:
    • Assist in the review and update of progress, cost reports, schedules, and forecasts to completion on a regular basis.
    • Assist in the management of the project budget by controlling expenses, administering owner and subcontractor billings, and identifying work not covered by subcontractor’s scope of work/budget.
    • Conduct business in line with client guidelines.
  • Client Focus:
    • Manage the experience of customers and/or their designates to ensure positive relationships are established and maintained.
  • Health, safety, environment, and quality (HSEQ):
    • Take personal responsibility both for your own health and safety, and that of other workers, visitors to the site(s), the community, and the environment.
    • Assist, conduct, and coach worker(s) in Field Level Risk Assessments (FLRAs), and Behaviour Based Safety.
    • Know and comply with client requirements, Occupational Health and Safety Regulations, and all applicable government laws and regulations.
    • Hold direct reports accountable for HSE performance, and verify that subordinates are executing their responsibilities properly.
    • Demonstrate HSE leadership at all times.
    • Ensure contractors and subcontractors meet or exceed HSE MS requirements during execution of work.
  • Quality:
    • Hold the authority to control the quality performance on project site.
    • Communicate the PSQP to the project site team including subcontractors.
    • Execute the PSQP and implementation of all quality activities on site.
    • Monitor the performance of quality by the subcontractors.
    • Verify that the project site team is performing all required quality activities and hold them accountable for their quality performance.
