Position Summary:

Leads all procurement activities for the Raw Materials category. Responsible for creating and executing against clear category strategies, streamlining our processes and ensuring we secure supply, manage risk and deliver value to our stakeholders.

Procurement Strategy

  • Responsible for the full procurement process for all packaging materials used across Canada
  • Responsible for the full procurement process for other category items/services as required and/or identified
  • Oversees all procurement and contracting activities including pre-qualification, tender management, negotiation, risk management, category strategies and preparation of contracts
  • Carries out a comprehensive review of the Purchasing function and its methodology and identifies and implements improvements; works with functional managers to transition procurement activities and functions as necessary
  • Analyzes purchases of goods and services for opportunities to leverage spend categories that could reduce inventory and lower total cost of acquisition. Additionally, creates and monitors key KPI’s
  • Builds and develops relationships with key suppliers who are aligned to the Company’s needs
  • Identifies new suppliers, agrees to terms, and negotiates supply agreements where appropriate, including discount and/or volume rebate structures
  • Manages overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of procurement for assigned facilities
  • Sets policy and guidelines for delivering commercial and cost effective procuring process for the business
  • Follows and enforces the company's procurement policies and procedures

Supply Chain Management

  • Works with Director of Packaging, pack house supervisors and farm management to ensure proper quality and quantity of packing materials and other direct materials are on hand at all times
  • Manages the supply and replenishment activities of packaging materials as required by the pack house and company
  • Has a clear understanding of the cause of delays and communicates directly to all stakeholders
  • Negotiates contracts with suppliers to obtain best price and service
  • Manages inventories and maintains accurate purchase and pricing records.
  • Maintains and updates supplier information such as qualifications, delivery times, product ranges, etc

Reporting and Budget Creation

  • Provides daily, weekly and monthly procurement reports for management on purchasing, controls and processes
  • Drives the procurement budgeting process across all Canadian operations, including developing, updating, and maintaining all related activities
  • Conducts business review meetings with key stakeholders to assess risk, review future strategies, and identify potential cost down and improvement opportunities

Continuous Improvement

  • Creates and implements regional procurement strategies that are innovative, cost-effective, and incorporate the growing complexities and challenges within industry
  • Reviews financial statement and general ledger account details to identify and explain budget variances on a monthly basis
  • Leads transformational activities to build procurement organizational capabilities and improve procurement efficiency
  • Implements change and develop new processes to better procure goods and services
  • Identifies areas for improvement to continually drive performance and business results
  • Reviews current processes for procurement and make recommendations where appropriate
  • Identifies cost reduction opportunities to achieve financial goals
  • Analyzes market and delivery trends so as to develop procurement technologies and processes that support those trends

ERP System Implementation and Project Management

  • Works collaboratively with core SAP team to ensure transition to new P.O. based procurement system is productive and well managed

Other Duties

  • Facilitates improvement activities with other department managers and area supervisors
  • Develops data management systems to monitor, control, and improve processes
  • Provides meaningful recommendations for continual improvement or innovation
  • Administers the requisitions/purchase orders on behalf of the farm managers for direct materials and other items/services as required

Qualifications & Experience:

Education & Past Experiences:

  • Professional Designation within the Supply Chain field is preferred (PMAC/SCMP preferred)
  • B.A or M.A. in Business Administration, Logistics, or similar relevant fields preferred
  • Minimum of Three (3) years of purchasing or related experience; experience in the consumer packaged goods, agriculture, or manufacturing industries is an asset
  • Experience with ERP systems is an asset
  • In-depth knowledge of contracts, invoicing, and negotiation terms
  • Advanced experience with Microsoft Excel
