Job Description:
The Seabee Gold Operation is an underground gold mining and milling operation, located near Laonil Lake, Saskatchewan, Canada, approximately 125 kilometers northeast of the town of La Ronge. The Santoy underground mine has been in continuous commercial production since 2014. Commercial production at the Seabee underground mine commenced in 1991 and exhausted Mineral Resources in 2018. All ore is processed at the Seabee mill facility, which has been in operation since 1991.
This position has a schedule of 4 days on, 3 days off at our remote camp which you will be required to fly in fly out with pick up points in Saskatoon, Prince Albert & La Ronge.
The Capital Projects, Superintendent will ensure successful development, execution and management of Seabee Gold Operation capital processes and multi-disciplinary projects at Seabee Gold Operation sites, in a manner that meets business needs and is in accordance with SSR project management principles of Safety, Quality, Scope, Schedule, and Cost.
Reporting to the Manager, Maintenance & Support Operations, this role is responsible for leading the development of the annual capital budget and AFE process, leading the development and execution of all capital projects, overseeing project budgets, schedules and reports as well as for the management and coordination of project staff and sub-contractors to ensure safe, cost effective, efficient and timely completion of projects. In addition, the Capital Projects, Superintendent, will provide leadership guidance to ongoing projects, including change management, quality assurance, and field engineering support.
Also encompassed by this role is oversight of the Reliability and Asset Integrity department. This includes supporting the development of the annual asset integrity report and actioning item within this report that require capital funding, oversight of the reliability program and supporting the team as they implement and grow this program within the site maintenance departments.
  • Define scope of work for all capital projects.
  • Provide leadership to the Projects team for effective project management control in a manner that will deliver capital projects within budget, schedule, and quality.
  • Develop and maintain overall execution plan, schedules and cost management systems, contracts, manage QA/ QC programs as applicable.
  • Establish, standardize, and review project management procedures and systems.
  • Management of contractors and consultants, in accordance with company policies, ensuring close monitoring of construction activities against project baselines and KPIs, and frequent reporting of progress update.
  • Support development and approval of Approval for Expenditure (AFEs).
  • Review critical issues within a project (i.e. project risks and opportunities) that could impact outcomes (i.e. schedule or budget) and develop action plans to address negative variances and reporting areas of non-compliance to the project stakeholders.
  • Devise strategies focusing on minimizing the impacts of projects on the environment.
  • Undertake the entire lifecycle of Seabee Gold Operation project portfolio, ranging from strategic planning initiatives to tactical activities, including scoping, planning, design, procurement, execution, and reporting.
  • Conduct cost-benefit analysis, risk analyses, and return on investment (ROI) calculations to determine project feasibility.
  • Conduct stakeholder meetings and forums to solicit feedback, input, and expectations; incorporate these into project plans.
  • Produce regular reports on the progress of project portfolio development.
  • Lead coordination of project close out processes including but not limited to commissioning, deficiency remediation, handover to operations and participate in Post Investment Reviews (PIRs).

  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in Mechanical, electrical, mining, geological, chemical or civil engineering or a related subject.
  • A member of APEGS (or similar provincial governing body) with a P. Eng designation is preferred, but other relevant experience and education will be considered.
  • 5-8 years of progressive leadership experience in project engineering, preferably in a mining environment.
  • Project Management Professional certification is preferred.
  • Experience working in an industrial facility, remote operations, shift work, and seasonal access restrictions is preferred.
  • Demonstrated success in project delivery and execution of project management methods.
  • Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles and practices preferred.
  • Negotiation, diplomatic, and conflict resolution skills are essential.
  • Ability to create and facilitate meetings, feedback sessions, and briefings to create consensus among stakeholders.
  • Able to communicate, both verbally and in writing, with all levels of staff, including technical, professional, and management.
  • Knowledge of financial management, technology management, and internal controls.
  • Strong problem identification and problem resolution skills.
  • Ability to create and edit project documents, materials, and presentations.
  • Able to build and maintain lasting relationships with business units, corporate departments, key managers, and other stakeholders.
  • Flexibility to adjust to shifting priorities and deadlines.
