Job Summary
Dalhousie Medicine New Brunswick is one of the two campuses of Dalhousie Faculty of Medicine. The main administrative office is located on the UNBSJ Campus in Saint John. DMNB offers a continuum of education programming for 120 New Brunswick students over the 4-year undergraduate program.Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, and working under the direction of the principal investigators based at DMNB, the incumbent will assist with bio banking, processing and data analysis of cells and tissue samples.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collect, process and store tissue samples. Processing of samples will include conducting cell culture, mass Spectrometry analysis, flow cytometry, histology, DNA, RNA and protein analysis. Provide guidance to trainees or analysts on different processing methods, as required.
  • Maintain documentation (detailed logs and inventories, electronic and hard copy) to comply with national accreditation standards of a human tissue bio bank and prepare reports.
  • Coordinate sample transport to internal and external biobank users.
  • Assist with laboratory and equipment maintenance and liaise with research technologist DMNB and Environmental Health and Safety department to ensure safe lab operations as needed.
  • Support the review, amendment and generation of new research ethic board applications.
  • Abide by local University & Hospital rules and codes of practice regarding Health and Safety and Data Protection.

Due to operational requirements, the successful applicant is required to work in-person on campus.

Required Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree in Biological and/or Medical Sciences, plus three to five years' laboratory experience (or equivalent combination of training and experience).
  • Transportation of Dangerous Goods certification.
  • Excellent communication, manuscript writing, problem solving, and interpersonal skills.
  • Familiarity with CTRN requirements (https://www.ctrnet.ca/), hospital record keeping, database management.

Assets

  • Master's degree.
  • Prior experience with human tissue bio- banking, research ethics proposals, tissue/cell culture, flow cytometry, and molecular biology techniques.
  • Bilingualism English/French is considered an asset.
