Emergency Management & Climate Readiness (EMCR) is the lead coordinating agency in the BC Public Service for all emergency management activities. EMCR is responsible for leading the management of provincial level emergencies and disasters and supporting other authorities within their areas of jurisdiction. EMCR works directly with local governments, Indigenous Nations, provincial ministries and agencies, federal departments, other jurisdictions, industry and volunteers in hazard mitigation, preparedness, response, and recovery.
Leads a team of professionals in the development and implementation of strategic plans, frameworks, policies, operational plans, and procedures to support and deliver community recovery funding activities, particularly the administration of Disaster Financial Assistance (DFA).
Job Requirements:
- Degree in business administration, financial administration, public administration, emergency management, or related field; OR
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
- Experience must include all of the following:
- Two (2) years of experience supervising and managing employees.
- Four years of experience developing and/or interpreting legislation, regulations, and policies.
- Four years of experience collaborating with leadership in ministries within the BC Public Service and external partners (e.g., First Nations, local governments).
- Two (2) years of experience leading procurement activities and overseeing contractors.
- Two (2) years of experience leading organizational change including application of change management principles to support successful implementation.
Candidates must be willing and able to:
- Work on-call or extended hours during emergency activations.

About this Position:
Ministry of Emergency Management & Climate Readiness has offices in Victoria, Saanichton, Kamloops, Surrey, Nelson, Prince George, Terrace and Smithers. Currently space is available in Victoria, Saanichton, Smithers and Kamloops, however other locations may become available.
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work from home up to five (5) days a week as per the Telework Agreement.
This is a seven (7) month temporary opportunity. This temporary opportunity may be extended or become permanent.
An eligibility list may be established to fill future temporary and permanent vacancies.
This position is excluded from union membership.
