Job Summary

The Adult Custody Division is one of four divisions of BC Corrections and is responsible for the care of approximately 2,800individuals in custody. Adult Custody provides custodial supervision for adults sentenced to incarceration and those remanded in custody. It provides core programs and additional services which balance risks and needs; ensures linkage with Community Corrections based on common core programming and integrated case management; communicates with stakeholders and participates as a pro-active partner in the criminal justice system.

Staff in the Adult Custody Division headquarters participate in the planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of strategic initiatives and major provincial projects. This position leads and directs complex and multi-dimensional projects and provincial initiatives in one or more of the following major portfolio areas: Operations, Programs, Offender Management, Recruitment and Staffing, and Capital projects.

The Assistant Deputy Warden, Headquarters within the recruitment and staffing portfolio is responsible for leading the provincial recruitment activities and providing subject matter expertise for recruitment activities provincially. The position manages centralized recruitment and all stages of employee movement within the Division employing analytics, traditional sourcing strategies and resources as well as developing new and creative ideas. The position oversees the recruitment of correctional officers provincially including posting, candidate screening, interviewing, document preparation, onboarding, and ensuring employees are correctly compensated.

The position works closely with BC Corrections Adult Custody Division executive, centre managers, other government agencies, and industry partners including contractors and consultants.

Job Requirements:

  • Secondary school graduation or equivalent.
  • Experience in adult correctional environment; OR,
  • Several years of related human resources experience; OR,
  • Equivalent combination of education, training and experience.


Preference may be given to applicants with:

  • Education or experience in recruitment, human resources, project management, and/or budget management.
  • Related university degree or diploma.
  • Supervisory experience.
