How you will contribute as part of the Slaman’s team:

Under the direction of the Operations Manager, the Assistant Grower has day to day responsibility for maintaining plant growth on the current growth production schedule. The Assistant Grower will oversee how the plants are growing in all stages of production: advising on the proper water/fertilizer applications and biological/pesticide control, and plant health during crop cycles.

Major Responsibilities:

● Under direction monitors all growing and production tasks

● Assists with planning to structure work efficiently, and coordinate production activities

● Monitors and maintains awareness of plant production and quality indicators to ensure they meet company requirements

● Monitors ventilation, irrigation and other environmental conditions and informs operations manager or Grower of concerns

● Maintaining plant and spray records for quality control, compliance, and safety purposes

● Ensures other Growers are updated with necessary information prior to weekend, holidays, and vacations

● Ensures sufficient supplies for efficient work schedules

● All other duties as assigned

What will you need to succeed:

Education (degree/diploma/certifications)

• No requirements but prior training or education is always an asset.

• Valid pesticide application licence

Experience

Entry-level

· No prior experience required

Knowledge/Skill/Ability

• Must be comfortable using email and Microsoft Office software with intermediate Excel and Word skills
• Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and time management
• Excellent written and oral communication skills
• Thorough knowledge of plant pests and diseases
• Ability to adapt to new technology and processes
• Ability to driver pullers (and tow motors if trained) a strong asset
• Ability to multi task and be willing to adapt to priorities and tasks changing on short notice
• Bilingual in English and Spanish an asset

Position Details:

Employment type: Full-Time

Duration of employment: Permanent after 3-month probation period

Hours of work: Approximately 40 hrs/week

Schedule: Set schedule - Monday to Friday with requirement to work some Saturdays, long weekends and extra hours during peak sales times or as required due to agriculture production.

Work Conditions: Cold environment – ready to ship product is stored and packed in a cooler with temperatures ranging from 2-6 degrees Celsius; Warm environment – Warehouse and Production Greenhouse may range in temperature throughout the seasons 15-35+ degrees Celsius.

Work location: In-person, Burford site

Salary Range: $18.00- $24.00 per hour; prior experience and skill set considered when setting salary
