The Corporate Information & Records Management Office (CIRMO) is responsible for ensuring that government information is managed, used and protected appropriately and strategically to enable better delivery of services to citizens, businesses and the public sector. The Corporate Privacy Office, within CIRMO, is the corporate office responsible for the operational and strategic activities related to the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FOIPPA), including the review of privacy impact assessments, provision of strategic privacy advice, development of privacy policy, training and guidance, compliance monitoring, and incident response and investigation activities related to information incidents, including privacy breaches, among other responsibilities.

The Privacy Advisor plans, develops, implements and evaluates the delivery of mandatory and discretionary privacy and information management training for government employees and contractors/service providers. The position provides legislative and corporate privacy policy interpretation to government organizations, private organizations and the general public at both the operational and strategic level. The position independently manages assigned projects and those focused on the review and revision of existing ministry programs or policy.

Job Requirements:

  • Degree in public policy, business administration, communications, public administration, law, or other related degree. An equivalent combination of education/experience may be considered.
  • Experience must include:
    • Design and delivery of information/education materials;
    • Training development and delivery (or public speaking);
    • Analyzing, interpreting and applying policy and legislation; and
    • Developing and maintaining relationships with a wide range of stakeholders.

Preference may be given to candidates with one or more of the following:

  • Master's degree.
  • Experience with privacy and information management policy.
  • Experience developing and delivering information management training.
  • Completed the BC Information Privacy Certificate.
  • Experience analyzing, interpreting, and applying privacy legislation (FOIPPA and PIPA) relating to the collection, use and disclosure of personal information as they apply to the provincial context.
  • At least one (1) year experience managing projects and/or project components.
