Yard Attendant/Scale Attendant

Employment Opportunity

MVRMWC is seeking one individual for the role of Yard Attendant/Scale Attendant. The position is a full-time, permanent position (40 hours per week, Tuesday to Saturday), plus occasional overtime as required to meet workload demands and schedules. This position will report directly to the Operations Manager.

The Mountain View Regional Waste Management Commission (“MVRMWC”) provides solid waste management services to residents and businesses in Central Alberta. The Commission is owned by the municipalities of Carstairs, Cremona, Didsbury, Olds, Sundre and Mountain View County. MVRWMC operates a Class II Landfill in Didsbury, Alberta, and waste transfer stations in Water Valley, and Sundre, Alberta.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Have a “safety-first” attitude, ability to minimize hazards and setting an example to all employees through cultivating a safe and positive work environment.
  • Maintaining positive interactions with the public, assisting customers with waste, recycling, and disposal
  • Assist with site maintenance and the ability to operate small equipment such as lawnmowers, side by sides etc.
  • Provide backup coverage if needed to operate the scale.

Preferred Qualifications and Skills:

  • Well-developed interpersonal and communication skills, providing leadership to staff and ability to provide clear direction in any emergency situations.
  • Previous experience operating small equipment
  • Previous customer service experience with the ability to work on a computer, handle cash, monetary transactions, and nightly deposits. (When needed for scale coverage)
  • Own reliable transportation and class 5 Driver’s license

Compensation and Additional Incentives:

  • Competitive industry wage, plus eligibility for overtime as required based on workloads.
  • Participation in employee incentive program providing potential for 10% annual bonus based on regular earnings.
  • Eligibility for group benefits after initial 3-month probation period (including health, dental, vision, short and long-term disability, and life insurance) and enrollment in the Local Authorities Pension Plan after 1 year of service (“LAPP”)
