The Worker Advisor Office provides services to injured workers and their families who wish to appeal a decision of the Workers Compensation Board (WCB) of Manitoba. The Office may represent clients at various levels of appeal, and provides advice and assistance before and during the appeal process. The Office also offers general information on WCB legislation, policies, and processes. The Worker Advisor Office performs their functions independent of the Workers Compensation Board.

The Worker Advisor Office is seeking to fill one (1) regular full-time Worker Advisor position in Winnipeg, MB.

Qualifications:
Essential:

  • Post-secondary education in social sciences or a related discipline; an equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered
  • Experience analyzing and assessing large amounts of technical written material, such as correspondence, reports, opinions and statements
  • Experience interpreting, applying and explaining legislation and/or policies
  • Strong critical thinking and decision-making skills with the ability to identify effective solutions to problems
  • Ability to work independently
  • Effective written communication skills with the ability to present information and articulate ideas clearly to a variety of audiences
  • Excellent verbal communication skills with the ability to discuss and present information clearly and persuasively in formal and informal settings
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work with various stakeholders, mediate conflict situations, and handle sensitive, highly charged situations with tact and empathy
  • Strong organizational and case management skills with the ability to effectively manage multiple cases and meet deadlines
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook

Desired:
  • Knowledge of The Workers Compensation Act and Regulations
  • Knowledge of medical terminology

Duties:
A Worker Advisor is appointed under Section 108 of The Workers’ Compensation Act. The Worker Advisor works independent of the Workers Compensation Board (WCB) to provide workers and dependants with assistance, advice and representation on WCB claims and appeals.
