Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY

The Web Applications Analyst provides technical expertise in support of web sites and web-based applications used throughout the County and by its affiliated partners. Use of technical expertise to develop and administer Salesforce and Microsoft Power Platforms as well as providing system analysis, design, programming, administration, troubleshooting, vender liaison and end user support for our web systems and applications.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (not listed in order of priority)

1. Meet with web content authors to assist with designing the visual layout, information architecture, and work flow pertinent to publishing requirements.

2. Provide expertise regarding current web technologies and identifies how clients can leverage these tools to meet communications objectives.

3. Liaise with software providers regarding installation, maintenance and technical support of their products.

4. Provide operational support to web servers and corporate applications servers to ensure their security, fault tolerance, backup, and efficient performance.

5. Design and implement front end and back end programs to support dynamic web page generation and forms-based data collection using web-based tools.

6. Participate in the management of SQL database servers associated with web applications.

7. Implement appropriate security mechanisms to facilitate restricted Intranet and Extranet applications.

8. Conduct quality control assessments of client web sites to ensure that consistent style sheets have been applied, that hyperlinks are well structured, naming conventions are applied, and that image design is efficient and visually pleasing.

9. Analyze web statistics to determine visitor patterns and interest in particular web pages and associated services.

10. Assist Network and Communications section in managing firewall rules and domain administration.

11. Undertake systems analysis for new software applications, including client consultation, modeling of current systems, evaluation of technical and end user requirements.

12. Design and develop end user documentation and conduct training sessions.

13. Develop and monitor application pilot testing to determine functional compliance and user satisfaction.

14. Prepare reports and presentations as required.

15. Participate in committees as required.

16. Perform other duties as assigned.

17. Comply with provincial and County occupational health and safety legislation, regulations, policies and procedures.

18. Maintain confidentiality in accordance with the Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act.

EDUCATION, TECHNICAL SKILLS AND CERTIFICATION

  • Understanding of applications programming, web technologies, and network systems, achieved through a three year College diploma in Information Technology or a related discipline.
  • Salesforce Certification(s) in one or more of Administrator (Advanced Administrator, Platform App Builder, CPQ Specialist) or Designer (User Experience Designer, Strategy Designer) or System / Application Architect.
  • Microsoft 365 Certification(s) in one or more of Developer (Power Automate, Power Apps, Power Platform, SharePoint) or Administrator (Security, Managing Teams, Azure Services, SharePoint).
  • Knowledge of the latest HTML and CSS versions and standards.
  • Knowledge of programming languages (ASP.NET, C#, XML, JavaScript, SQL).
  • Knowledge of VB.NET, JAVA, PowerShell, IIS, JSON, jQuery would also be considered an asset.
  • Problem solving and critical thinking skills to diagnose problems and determine steps necessary to achieve an effective solution.
  • Ability to communicate effectively to users with varying levels of computer understanding. Ability to translate complicated technical language into layperson terms for training purposes.
  • Ability to work effectively with constant interruptions; ability to apply project management methodology and to use good judgment in determining priorities.
  • Technical writing skills required to document systems procedures and prepare reports.

EXPERIENCE

  • Two (2) years’ experience designing and developing complex web applications, and supporting associated server platforms in a large corporate setting, or two (2) years of Microsoft or Salesforce specific experience in an information technology programming / software support role.
