Work at CBC/Radio-Canada
At CBC/Radio-Canada, we create content that informs, entertains and connects Canadians on multiple platforms. Our successes and accomplishments are driven by embodying and upholding values, which include creativity, integrity, inclusiveness and relevance.
Do you think you have the ability and drive to keep up with this exciting, ever-changing industry? Whether it be in front of the camera, on air, online or behind the scenes, you would be joining a team that thrives on making connections and telling stories that are important to Canadians.
Your role

CBC Windsor is looking for an energetic and collaborative videojournalist who can tell stories with visuals, audio and words. This person will contribute to our morning current affairs radio show, our 6 p.m. TV news broadcast and our digital, streaming and on-demand sites.
As an exceptional journalist and a self-starter, you must be able to analyze a broad range of issues and thrive in the fast-paced, high-pressure world of live, local, multiplatform news gathering. You have lots of ideas, a fresh approach to telling stories and a hunger to ensure our programming is timely, relevant, and reflects what our audiences need to know to start their day. Most of all, you know how to package it to reach them where they are.
In this multiplatform role, you will gather, write, and edit content that you package as an audio item for our current affairs radio show and as a video item for our digital platforms, including social, streaming and on-demand platforms. You will also be tasked with writing digital versions of your stories. You thrive on the pressure of reporting on breaking news from the field. You are passionate about using sound and images, and your writing style takes the listener into the field with you. You are a champion of stories and sources from Windsor-Essex County’s under-represented communities, and you know that every story needs to include a range of perspectives.
As someone with a deep working knowledge of Windsor and Essex County, you understand its political landscape, its economic drivers, its rich immigrant history, and its unique location as Canada’s southernmost community bordering the U.S. Your work highlights how these issues affect the day-to-day lives of the people who live here.
In this role, you will ensure that all CBC journalistic standards are met and that our stories are fair, balanced, accurate, thoughtful, immediate and resonate with the communities we serve.
What you’ll do:
  • Pitch and produce original story ideas for current affairs programming that deepen CBC Windsor’s community connections, elevate a range of voices and reflect the day’s top local news in Windsor-Essex County.
  • Pitch and produce original video story ideas for our digital platforms that can also find a home on our 6 p.m. TV news show.,.
  • Conduct research and interviews, gather and edit audio and video, write scripts, and package content for broadcast and digital.
  • Write for the ear, and bring audio content to life through the rich use of sound and emotional clippage.
  • Collect compelling visuals, and bring stories to life through the rich use of images and video.
  • Regularly present stories live on radio, from within the studio and out in the field, providing analysis and context to enhance the audience’s understanding of issues.
  • Respond quickly to breaking news events as they unfold, prioritizing digital-first.

We are looking for a candidate with the following:
  • Demonstrated experience working in a fast-paced daily news environment.
  • Ability to generate, pitch and pursue strong story ideas.
  • A strong proven connection to the communities we serve in Windsor-Essex County.
  • A proven work ethic and a positive, team-first attitude.
  • Strong desire to live and promote the values of diversity and an inclusive and respectful work culture.
  • Advanced knowledge of current affairs radio programming, including familiarity with audio gathering and editing.
  • Advanced knowledge of visual storytelling technique, including gathering and editing of video.
  • Familiarity with photo and video equipment, including Canon DSLR and C cameras, Sony PMW200 and various still cameras and mobile devices - and editing techniques and tools including Avid Media Composer, Adobe Premiere Pro, Photoshop and After Effects.
  • Experience presenting stories live on air, from breaking news to longer form interactive reporting.
  • Strong text-based writing skills with an ability to easily cross-purpose audio content to digital copy and social streams.
  • Nimble and flexible, with a strong commitment to serve the audiences the information they need to know to start their day.
  • Willingness to learn and tackle new tasks across all CBC platforms (TV, radio, digital).
  • Sound news judgment and ability to work effectively under newsroom deadline pressure.
  • Ability to choose relevant, audience focused stories, which reflect issues being discussed by the public; hold officials to account; and create conversations in the community.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Possession of a valid driver’s licence and a driving record that meets the minimum requirements of CBC/Radio-Canada's insurance company; other classes considered an asset.
  • Ability to work a variety of shifts including early starts, late finishes and weekends.
  • University degree in journalism or equivalent with a minimum of three years of recent, related experience.
