POSITION SUMMARY

Bouvry Exports Calgary Ltd. is looking for an energetic, enthusiastic, organized, detail oriented, flexible and motivated Veterinarian interested in feedlot production medicine, for beef, bovine & equine. Experience working with all species would be an asset.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES SUMMARY

· Make regular scheduled visits to the feedlots. The frequency of visits depends on
the number of animals being held, the time of year, the expertise of the feedlot
personnel and whether animals have recently arrived.

· Being available for emergency visits to the feedlot when disease epidemics are
seen.

· Performing necropsies during visits and training feedlot personnel to do
necropsies at other times.

· Examining sick animals to ensure that reasonably accurate diagnoses are being
made and rational therapy is being given according to established treatment
protocols.

· Regularly examining, analyzing, and interpreting animal health and production
data and make recommendations in a written report. The effectiveness of detection
of sick animals, based on response and relapse rates and case fatality rates, should
be determined, and the effectiveness of the processing program for new arrivals,
which includes the vaccines used and the medications given, should be examined
and analyzed regularly.

· Selecting and prescribing all drugs used in the feedlot, giving specific advice about
the use of drugs, and adhering to EU Regulations & The Canadian Program for
Certifying Freedom From Growth Enhancing Product (GEP) for the Export of Beef to
the EU.

· Discussing overall animal health and production performance with the feedlot
manager and other consultants, setting animal health and production goals, and
monitoring achievement.

· The veterinarian should produce a monthly report that compares processing costs,
treatment costs, and death loss by arrival weight and days on feed.

· Become familiar with and comply with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and
Policies such as, Animal Handling Procedures, Animal Welfare Policy, Live Animal
Purchasing, Emergency Livestock Management Plan, Euthanizing Plan, Equine
Identification Document (completion & verification) and Transfer of Care to name a
few.

· Become well versed in the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) rules and
regulations as they pertain to all aspects of animal care and control. Forge a
working relationship with CFIA Veterinarian in Charge and Inspection staff with the
ability to respectfully challenge and discuss issues that may arise regarding animal
care, movement or slaughter.

· As this is a newly developed position for Bouvry Exports Calgary Ltd. the successful
candidate should be adaptable and open to evolving duties/responsibilities.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

· Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) is required and you must be eligible to be
licensed to practice in Alberta.

· Minimum 1-3 years of feedlot experience would be beneficial.

WORKING CONDITIONS

· Home base will be at the Plant, office space will be supplied.

· Majority of duties will be performed outdoors.

· Employee will be exposed to natural weather conditions while performing some
duties.

· Employee will be in contact with animals, aggressive animals, animal bites, disease,
odors, animal danger, animal by products and chemicals.

· Employee may perform duties alone or as a part of a select team.

· Employee may be required to be on-call as necessary.

ABILITY TO COMMUTE/RELOCATE

· This position is located in & around Fort Macleod, AB. Must be able to reliably
commute on a daily basis or plan to relocate before start of employment.
