The Pulmonary Diagnostics department within SHC is currently recruiting for a casual Unit Clerk. Reporting to the Unit Manager of Pulmonary Diagnostics, the Unit Clerk will assist in completion of clerical tasks associated with the following areas: Pulmonary Function Lab, Pulmonary Clinic, and Bronchoscopy. Within these areas the Unit Clerk will be tasked with the following: Answering and managing phone calls. Management and processing of patient referrals in accordance with Path to Care guidelines. Processing physician orders and coordinating diagnostic exams with internal and external facilities. Performing patient registration, discharge and transfer functions in SCM and Clinibase. Booking patient appointments in Millennium Scheduler. Coordinating internal and external transportation of patients and equipment. Assembling charts for patients and correlating all documents needed for initial and ongoing visits. Faxing documentation as required. Liaising with referring sites regarding patient bookings. Data entry into various IT systems. Completion of reminder patient phone calls.

Description:

As a Unit Clerk, you will be responsible for the efficient flow of communication between health professionals, departments, patients and families while maintaining confidentiality of patient information. You will also be responsible for a variety of administrative tasks which may include reception, greeting and directing visitors, patients and health professionals, maintaining patient records and charts, transcribing and processing physician orders as well as scheduling patient tests and/or treatments. You will also be responsible for performing a range of administrative activities in support of the unit.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent. Completion of an accredited Unit Clerk Course or equivalent training program.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Completion of Medical Office Assistant Program or Unit Clerk course or equivalent training program. Medical Terminology course. Minimum 1 year working in an ambulatory setting in the last 3 years. Demonstrated excellent interpersonal and conflict resolution skills. Excellent English language skills in reading, writing and oral communication. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively as well as independently and accept accountability. Demonstrated ability to learn multiple workflows and to manage competing priorities. Must be able to bend, lift, push and pull office supplies of up to 20 lbs.

Preferred Qualifications:

Proficiency with the following IT systems: Connect Care, Millennium Scheduler, Clinibase, Netcare/eReferral, SCM, Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, Internet Explorer. Applicants with less than 1 year experience in an Ambulatory Clinic may be considered if they have experience as a Unit Clerk on a medical inpatient unit.
