Faculty of Education
Tenure-Track Assistant Professor, Developmental Studies

The Faculty of Education at the University of Winnipeg invites applications for a full-time, probationary tenure-track faculty position in Developmental Studies at the rank of Assistant Professor. The position will give preference to qualified candidates who self-identify as racialized persons, Indigenous persons, persons with disabilities, and 2SLGBTQ+ persons.

Located in Treaty 1 Territory in the homeland of the Red River Métis, the university is situated on the traditional lands of the Anishinaabeg, Ininíwak, Anishinini, Oceti Sakowin, and Denesuline peoples. The Faculty of Education offers a five-year integrated Bachelor of Education (BEd) program, a two-year after-degree BEd stream, a Post-Baccalaureate Diploma in Education for in-service teachers, and a graduate program in Marriage and Family Therapy. In addition, the Developmental Studies program is housed in the Faculty of Education. We offer a three-year multidisciplinary Bachelor of Arts degree; a four-year joint Bachelor of Arts degree in partnership with Red River College Polytechnic and Université de Saint-Boniface which enables students to receive provincial certification in early childhood education (ECE II and III); and elective courses to meet requirements for the Early Years stream of the Bachelor of Education program.

We strive to provide academic opportunities in partnership with Indigenous, racialized people, people with inner-city experience, as well as single parents, mature students, and newcomers. In addition to the preparation of early childhood educators and preservice teachers leading to provincial certification, programming at the University of Winnipeg provides additional foci on urban inner-city education, coalition building, and decolonial liberation work.

The successful candidate will have an earned doctorate degree or be a doctoral degree candidate who has all but defended their dissertation before the start date of the appointment. Doctoral studies should be in early childhood development, early childhood education, curriculum and teaching, or a related field. Certification in an approved early childhood teaching qualification such as an Early Childhood Educator or Early Years Teacher is preferred, as is experience working in an early childhood setting or community agency supporting young children, knowledge of child care administration, and familiarity with supporting young children with learning needs in inclusive settings. The successful candidate should have experience with or demonstrate their commitment to include Indigenous knowledges and approaches across all developmental studies courses. Our courses are currently offered online in the evenings. The successful candidate will be required to teach courses in-person and on-line, evenings, days and/or weekends as needed, and supervise field/clinical experiences in applied settings.

Evidence of engagement in post-secondary teaching including previous experience teaching at the post-secondary level is preferred. Depending on area(s) of expertise, additional teaching responsibilities in the Faculty of Education may be assigned. The successful candidate should have an active research program, one recognized by academic and education communities with the potential to lead to external research funding. The successful candidate will be expected to demonstrate collegiality and contribute to program, Faculty, University, and community service. The successful candidate will also demonstrate commitment to understanding and addressing systemic inequalities.

Subject to budgetary approval, the appointment will take effect on July 1, 2023, or as soon afterward as possible. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Applicants are requested to submit a complete application that will include (all documents in PDF):
