What can I expect to do in this role?

Student Security Guards (Ontario Place Corporation) work as part of the larger security team to ensure compliance with safety regulations and procedures of the park, guests, and staff. As an Ontario Place Security Guard, you may have the opportunity to work on some or all of the following activities:
  • Interact with guests to provide directions to various areas of the park, surrounding venues, and transportation.
  • Clarify information to site patrons and guests.
  • Manage traffic.
  • Conduct crowd control practices.
  • Attend to minor first aid calls.
  • Maintain the safety of the public and assist in diffusing escalated situations in a professional manner.
  • Recognize escalating complex situations and notify Security and Loss Prevention Supervisor.


How do I qualify?

Mandatory

You must meet all eligibility criteria by the first day of employment (contracts begin between May and July):

Student Status: You must be enrolled in a secondary or post-secondary institution (currently or for the fall semester) OR you must have graduated within the past six months (for example, if you graduated in December, you can apply for and start a summer student position up until June of the following year).

Age: You must be a minimum of 15 years of age. There is no maximum age limit. Some positions require candidates to be a minimum of 18 years of age as of the first day of employment.

Residency: You must be a resident of Ontario during the term of employment.

Work Status: You must be legally entitled to work in Canada. You are also required to have a valid Social Insurance Number (SIN) upon being hired.

Communication and Interpersonal Skills

  • You apply your written communication skills to prepare a variety of documents (e.g. incident reports).
  • You apply your customer service and interpersonal skills to interact with and assist guests by providing information.


Technical Skills and Knowledge

  • You apply your general knowledge of law enforcement regulations and procedures, and are able to understand and apply generally accepted safety and security techniques.


Other Requirements

  • You are willing and able to work a rotating shift schedule, including weekends and statutory holidays.
  • You must have a valid Ontario G1 (or higher) Driver's Licence or equivalent.
  • You must have valid and current basic CPR and Standard First Aid certificate.
  • You are at least 18 years of age.
