Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30 am to 4:30 pm

Salary: $26.03 / hour

CWSDS is looking to hire a Speech-Language Pathologist Assistant (CDA), on a full time permanent basis. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:


Under the clinical supervision of the Speech-Language Pathologist:

  • Provides time limited treatment and training services across the assigned geographical area to people supported, their families, and support providers in the community.
  • Works as part of an inter-disciplinary team to support people with dual diagnosis.
  • Implement skill acquisition plans targeting specific language, articulation and augmentative communication-based goals
  • Implement individual and group intervention, including social skills groups
  • Provide care provider/staff training based on recommendations from speech-language assessments
  • Assist in providing in-service training and community education as needed across the assigned geographical area
  • Create low-tech communication aids, set up and program high-tech communication devices
  • Prepare materials as needed for assessment and intervention
  • Assist in data collection and language samples during assessment with the Speech-Language Pathologist
  • Maintain accurate documentation in the form of progress notes and progress summaries
  • Other assigned duties as provided by the Speech-Language Pathologist

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Communicative Disorders Assistant Certificate from a recognized/accredited College and a member in good standing with the Communicative Disorders Assistant Association of Canada.
  • Knowledge of the theories, methods, and techniques of developing speech and language programs for people diagnosed with an intellectual disability.
  • A minimum of 500 hours of field experience in providing speech related services to persons with both intellectual and developmental disabilities and mental health challenges. Experience in providing professional services to persons with autism.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently in a “field” position, without daily supervision, while planning and delivering speech -language services. Demonstrated ability to work within an interdisciplinary team.
  • Strong, planning, priority setting, and problem solving skills; demonstrated ability to meet deadlines.
  • Computer proficiency using Microsoft Office including Word and Excel.
  • Ability to work flexible hours to meet with the persons supported and community resources.
  • Valid Ontario Driver’s License and a vehicle to conduct home visits and community outreach activities.
