As a Sous Chef, you will work closely with the Chef to manage and coordinate the daily operations of the CiderHouse: Pizza Oven restaurant and the kitchen production for retail foods, catered events, and weddings.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Preparing and supervising the preparation of dishes according to established recipes and procedures.
  • Coordinating the work of the kitchen staff, including assigning tasks, and ensuring that each team member is working efficiently and effectively.
  • Working closely with the event team leads to execute the culinary aspects of all catered events & weddings on the farm.
  • Communicating with the Event Manager and other event staff to ensure that the culinary aspects of the event are seamlessly integrated with other elements, such as decor and entertainment.
  • Maintaining a clean and organized kitchen environment, including equipment, utensils, and workspaces.
  • Ensuring that food quality and presentation meet the standards, and that dishes are prepared and served on time.
  • Communicating with the Front of House staff to ensure that the culinary aspects of the restaurant are seamlessly integrated with other elements, such as service and ambiance.
  • Monitoring inventory levels and communicating the needs for ordering supplies as needed, and managing food waste and spoilage.
  • Ensuring that all food is prepared and served in accordance with food safety and sanitation regulations, and that the kitchen is in compliance with local health codes.
  • Training and mentoring kitchen staff, and providing guidance and feedback on their performance.
  • Preparing pizza dough, sauces, and toppings according to established recipes and procedures.
  • Stretching and shaping pizza dough by hand to create consistent, even crusts.
  • Applying toppings to pizzas in a neat and visually appealing manner, ensuring that each pizza is cooked to perfection.
  • Cooking pizzas in the wood-fired oven, monitoring temperatures and adjusting cooking times as needed to ensure optimal results.
  • Collaborating with the kitchen team to ensure that all orders are completed accurately and efficiently, and that food quality and presentation meet the standards of the restaurant.
  • Assisting with other kitchen tasks as needed, such as prepping ingredients, washing dishes, and cleaning kitchen equipment.
  • Taking on additional responsibilities and projects as needed to support the smooth operation of the CiderHouse restaurant and farm’s kitchen food production.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Previous experience working in a restaurant kitchen, with a strong understanding of kitchen operations and procedures.
  • Previous experience working in a fast-paced kitchen environment, ideally in a pizza restaurant or similar establishment.
  • The ability to work quickly and efficiently while maintaining attention to detail and quality
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire team members.
  • A strong work ethic and a commitment to quality and excellence in all aspects of kitchen operations.
  • Knowledge of food safety and sanitation regulations, with the ability to maintain a clean and safe kitchen environment.
  • The ability to work effectively under pressure, and to manage multiple tasks and priorities simultaneously.
  • The ability to work a flexible schedule, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays, to meet the needs of the food and beverage department
  • A passion for food and a desire to continuously learn and improve your skills in pizza-making and wood fire oven cooking and grow as a Chef.

Job Type: Full-time
Contract length: 7 months

Salary: $22.00-$27.00 per hour
