Reporting to the Director, Software Development, the Software Development Leader will assist in the development of our product path, while being responsible for the successful delivery and implementation of our software products.

The successful candidate will lead all aspects of the software development lifecycle, working with the UI-UX design, Development, Quality Assurance and Support personnel to develop our products; and will define, prioritize, schedule, resource and deliver the highest quality products and features.

The Software Development Leader will also work collaboratively with customers, sales, marketing, and Pricedex Management to conceptualize, visualize, and prioritize development and delivery of new and meaningful functionality to our software applications. The ideal candidate will have a strong hands-on development background and proven progressive experience involving the development of commercial software applications.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Key Job Characteristics:

Assisting in the development of our Product Path

  • Establishing and maintaining strong relationships with a range of end-user customers, and understanding their evolving needs, requirements, and priorities.
  • Interpreting customer needs and industry trends to initiate and visualize software solutions.
  • Developing industry-related subject-matter expertise in respect to technology standards and business practices.
  • Supporting Pre-Sales activities, including technical dialogue with potential customers and preparation of proofs-of-concept/product demos

Developing Technical Design Documents

  • Through customer interaction, gathering and documenting functional requirements for a solution and developing and documenting technical design documents to guide the development.

Project Team Leadership

  • Organizing and Managing the day-to-day activities of ‘in-house’ and ‘external’ project teams
  • Motivating the team to achieve organizational goals with high-quality, on-time software deliverables.
  • Developing, communicating, and implementing a timeline to successfully achieve targets.
  • Delegating and monitoring tasks to team members.

Technical Mentoring

  • Leveraging personal technical background to assist developers in creating code and improving their capabilities.
  • Leading by example in problem-solving, prioritizing and decision-making

Project Implementation Management

  • Contributing to the estimating process for establishing resource demand, project timeline and tasks.
  • Organizing the team to meet established project schedules with high-quality releases.
  • Ensuring that development, implementation and testing best practices are adhered to and followed.
  • Communicating and coordinating implementation activities with the customer.

Desirable Qualifications

  • A proven history of at least five years successfully leading, motivating and inspiring a team of software developers in a "hands on" business environment.
  • Demonstrated experience delivering "mission critical", software development projects using C#, ASP.NET, .NET Framework, MVC, and SQL databases.
  • A track record of building customer relationships and learning about customers’ businesses.
  • Experience allocating resources effectively to meet commitments across multiple projects.
  • Experience documenting customer business and technical requirements.
  • Strong working knowledge of current and emerging technologies.
  • Experience in all aspects of the software development life cycle.
  • Experience managing complex project schedules.
  • University degree in Computer Science or related discipline, or equivalent relevant work experience
  • Knowledge of any or all of Workflow Process Control, Database Publishing, and Content Management would be a material added asset.

  • Must be Canadian Citizen, or prove eligibility to work in Canada
  • Ability to travel 25% of the time
  • Holder of valid passport
  • Willing to work from headquarters in Brockville, Ontario Canada
