Splatsin Stsmamlt Services is an independent and completely autonomous child and family services agency operated by Splatsin since 1980.

Earlier this year, Splatsin marked a historic milestone when they received the first coordination agreement in BC from the federal and provincial governments. This agreement supports their ongoing delivery of child and family services grounded in culture and family systems. You can be part of this exciting opportunity too!

The Position

With family preservation being at the forefront, social workers and family support workers at Splatsin Stsmamlt Services are responsible for carrying out various child and family services that promote physical, mental, emotional and spiritual well-being and healing in the Splatsin community.

This role is actively involved in delivering a broad range of social services including guardianship services to Splatsin children, developing individual and customized child and family plans, integrating Secwepemc/Splatsin culture and values into day-to-day practice, and maintaining all associated case management responsibilities.

Ideal Individual

This is an excellent opportunity for a passionate individual with a minimum of a diploma in social work, child & youth care or related. Professional social work experience is preferred, but not required. Those who have recently graduated are welcome and invited to apply!

The ideal individual will have knowledge of local Indigenous communities and history. The individual will be skilled in child-centered, trauma informed practice with the ability to effectively assess risk in complex family situations. The individual will demonstrate a proactive approach to problem-solving, with excellent decision-making skills, cultural sensitivity, empathy, and discretion in dealing with confidential matters.

Preference may be given to individuals:

• of Indigenous ancestry,
• with social work experience,
• with a Bachelor of Social Work (or similar),
• familiar with traditional practices and/or the historical and systemic impacts on Indigenous communities which have resulted in intergenerational trauma.

The selected candidate must hold a valid class 5 driver’s license with a clean driver’s abstract and must successfully pass a criminal record check with vulnerable sector search.

What We Offer

Splatsin Stsmamlt Services is happy to provide mentorship to the right individual, as well as other opportunities to learn and grow. They offer a starting wage of $33/hr (+ more based on experience and education), which is above market rate. Additionally, the chosen candidate will enjoy fully paid extended health benefits, 12 paid sick days per year, and 13 annual statutory holidays.

As a full-time role, the successful candidate will work 35 hours per week. While the regular work schedule is Monday to Friday 8:30 to 4:30, flexibility outside those hours is required, including evenings occasionally.

This is a hybrid position where the employee may split their time working from home and the Splatsin office in Enderby, BC (just outside of Vernon).
