Working with our Safety Medical department, the Shift Nurse will be responsible for providing primary care and emergency response to the HCM campus. As a Shift Nurse at HCM following an assigned production shift, you will aid in mitigating risks, educate and promote associate wellbeing, provide treatment of illness and injury, and follow-up with ill and injured associates.
Key Responsibilities:
- Attend to Associate injury and illness (assessment, treatment & referral if required)
- Transitional Work Program initiation & reviews (e.g. work hardening, graduated hours, restricted work, temporary & permanent impairments)
- Conduct “on-line” reviews with Associates to determine mechanism of injury and countermeasures
- Meet with Supervisors to plan transitional work plans
- Respond to medical emergencies (i.e. Code green)
- Coordinate and participate in weekly Physicians and Associate appointments
- Control / input medical documentation (legal requirement)
- Support medical related activities such as flu clinic, health fair, hearing tests, Wellness initiatives
- Liaison with medical groups such as Athletic Therapists and Physiotherapists to ensure rehabilitation progress
- Administration (checks ambulance, crash cart, medical instruments, medical files, etc.)
- Completion of assigned project work (e.g. improvement initiatives)
Position Requirements:
- Post-secondary education in Nursing (RPN College diploma or RN University degree or College diploma)
- Registered and member in good standing with the College of Nurses
- Active medical treatment experience*
- Minimum 5-10 years of active RN or RPN nursing experience in a Hospital or Community Care setting
- Familiarity with provincial legislation including the Occupational Health & Safety Act and Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA)
- Intermediate Microsoft Office skills
Job Related Must Haves:
- Willing and able to work a two (2) shift rotation (days & afternoons)Two (2) weeks days, two (2) weeks afternoons, including any mandatory overtime
- Willing and able to support 3rd shift when required
- Willing and able to work overtime, weekends, shutdowns, statutory holidays, sometimes on short notice
- Valid G class driver’s license
Preferred Qualifications and Experience:
- Occupational Nursing experience an asset
- Strong case management skills related to Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB), Short-Term Disability (STD), and Long-Term Disability (LTD)
- Intermediate experience working with Parklane an asset
- Manufacturing Occupational Health nursing experience an asset
- Experience dealing with mental health issues including addictions
- Experience with infection control
- Experience developing and administering transitional work programs
- Dealing with sensitive issues - handling emotions under pressure
- The ability to work independently and as a member of a team

- Interpersonal skills - Communication (verbal, written, listening)
