Responsibilities


PRIMARY PURPOSE


The Sr. LR Advisor monitors the daily provision of services and provides technical and functional direction to the LR team. Provides advice to managers and supervisors in the day-to-day interpretation, application, administration and resolution of bargaining unit-wide issues and policy grievances falling under the various collective agreements and related Letters of Understanding. Participates in third-party dispute resolutions such as arbitrations and Labour Board hearings by presenting cases or assisting legal counsel representatives. Participates in and lead facets of the planning and conducting of corporate collective bargaining and the development of overall bargaining strategy. Develops and maintains currency with corporate business objectives, workplace issues and directions within the labour relations field in order to provide input to the formulation and delivery or plans to further the Company’s labour relations objectives.


KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES


Monitors the daily provision of services and provides technical and function direction to the LR team. Functional direction covers such topics as discipline, performance management, medical and rehabilitation placements, FOI/POP, and exclusion status.


Provides advice to managers and supervisors in the day-to-day interpretation, application, administration and resolution of bargaining unit-wide issues and policy grievances falling under the various collective agreements and related Letters of Understanding. Assists management staff with the early identification and resolution of labour relations issues.


Participates in third-party dispute resolutions such as arbitrations and Labour Board hearings by presenting cases or assisting legal counsel representatives.


Participates in and lead facets of the planning and conducting of corporate collective bargaining and the development of overall bargaining strategy.


Acts as Deputy Spokesperson for CUPE bargaining


Develops and maintains currency with corporate business objectives, workplace issues and directions within the labour relations field in order to provide input to the formulation and delivery or plans to further the Company’s labour relations objectives.


Develops and manages relationships with union leaders and representatives and participates in dialogue to resolve day-to-day labour relations issues.

Qualifications


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:


The requirements for this job are acquired through a University degree with Labour Relations specialty, plus six(6) years previous experience in labour relations in a heavily unionized environment, including negotiating and administering collective agreements, grievance handling, presenting arbitration cases, developing labour relations strategies to support management’s business plans and resolving contentious issues, developing and delivering labour relations seminars, and advising junior staff.


OTHER REQUIREMENTS:


Advanced knowledge of the concepts, principles, practices and techniques pertaining to the human resources field, particularly as they pertain to labour relations, and conflict resolution processes, including grievance processes, appeals, and expedited arbitrations.


Advanced knowledge of all the collective agreements, relevant employment standards, and other regulatory requirements.


Solid organizational and planning skills to provide input and support to the collective bargaining process, and to handle conflict resolution processes within the context of specific timeframes.


Solid interpersonal and communication skills to provide specialized guidance and expertise to managers, supervisors and peers on a wide range of labour relations matters, and to handle conflict resolution processes, including grievances, appeals, and expedited arbitrations.


Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills to conduct research and make recommendations in support of collective bargaining, conflict resolution processes and other labour relations issues.


Working knowledge of the relevant HR systems and modules, as well as standard office applications.

Recruitment Process: An applicant will be required to demonstrate their suitability for this position by meeting the minimum level of qualifications and experience in order to be invited into the selection process. A standard interview format will be used including general, scenario and behavioural descriptive interview questions.

This position offers the flexibility of working both on-site and remotely within B.C.

Rate of Pay


Salary: $103,581- $129,475 per annum (Actual salary offered will be commensurate with education, experience and internal parity).
