Fortify Protection Incorporated is a Canadian Security Contractor that provides security services to high risk contracts. We are a select and small group of dedicated professionals who take pride in providing our contracts, clients, and their property the highest level of protection available. Fortify takes contracts specific in environments where guards interact with people struggling with mental health, addictions and homelessness. In these environments we provide safety and security to our contract holders and their clients while they access the assistance they need to help deal with their daily struggles. This specific job posting is for an emergency homeless shelter in St. Thomas Ontario.

In order to be successful as a guard, applicants must be open minded in regards to new and complex challenges directly related to crisis response, medical emergencies, code of conduct and rule enforcement, assistance of emergency services (Police, Fire and EMS), etc. Guards who excel in this position are detail oriented, personable, compassionate and firm. Guards with Fortify Protection enter their shifts every day and make differences in peoples lives through rapport building, empathy, respect and patience.

Responsibilities of Fortify Guards:

Guards are responsible for the security and order of the shelter. Guards will conduct screenings on clients entering the facility for drugs, drug paraphernalia, weapons, and other contraband. In addition, guards will respond to calls from staff, other guards, and emergency services for assistance with medical emergencies (including common drug overdoses), assaults, thefts, shelter restrictions (persons being removed for breaking Code of Conduct), etc. In between screenings and answering calls guards will be monitoring the common area of the shelter, the CCTV, and assisting staff with sign in sheets, log books, camera reviews, etc.

Qualifications of Fortify Guards:

MANDATORY:

Applicants must possess valid and up to date copies of their Ontario Security Guard License, First Aid and CPR. In addition we ask that applicants provide an Ontario G Drivers license, with a clean drivers abstract. Applicants who cannot provide all 3 will not be invited for an interview.

Relevant Skills:

Clear written and verbal communication, crisis response and de-escalation, knowledge of the Canadian Criminal Code with direct reference to Provincial Offences, Indictable Offences and Section 494.1, Mental Health First Aid, Use of Force (Hand cuffing and Baton), etc.

Education:

Post Secondary is not mandatory but an asset. Including Police Foundations, Protection Security and Investigations, Advanced Police Studies, Advances Law Enforcement Studies, Social Work, Mental Health and Addictions Workers, etc.
