POSITION: REGISTERED NURSE – Crisis Group Lead

Primary Site: Alliance Wide

Temporary Full-time

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Crisis Group Lead is a Registered Nurse within Outpatient Mental Health who plays a key role as a member of the interdisciplinary team. They will act as a resource to the staff in the three HPHA Crisis Programs including the Crisis Intervention Program, Mobile Crisis and Rapid Response Team, and the Transition House (Safe Bed) Program. The Group Lead will liaison with the Emergency Departments, Community Social Services (City of Stratford and County of Huron), Police Services, Administrative Support, and Outpatient Mental Health Manager. The Group Lead will monitor quality in accordance to established standards and act as a contact for other disciplines as it relates to Outpatient Mental Health throughout the hospital and community. The Group Lead will work with the Outpatient Mental Health Manager to ensure staff are orientated and shifts are appropriately staffed and scheduled. They will participate in service committees and quality improvement initiatives as assigned. The Group Lead will be a key facet in the recovery process for all of the clients in the crisis programs, as they will work closely with the Outpatient Mental Health Manager and fellow Crisis staff to ensure that the expectations of the crisis programs are being met.

REPORTS TO: Manager, Outpatient Mental Health

DATE REQUIRED: As soon as possible

SALARY: $34.24 to $49.02 per hour

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required

- Registered Nurse and current registration with CNO

- Certified in Psychiatric and Mental Health Nursing (CPMHN(C)) through the Canadian Nurses Association

- Extensive knowledge of the Recovery Principles and Recovery Model

- Completion of Non Violent Crisis Intervention Training

- Knowledge of the Criminal Justice System within Ontario

Preferred

- Certification of Dialectic Behavioural Therapy and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy

- Certification in Brief Solutions Focused Therapy/Solution Focused Therapy

- Completion of suicide training program

- Completion of a crisis intervention certificate program

- Current CPR certification and First Aid

EXPERIENCE:

- Minimum five years current progressive clinical experience working with individuals with a serious mental illness and/or addictions in a health care setting and/or community based setting

- Minimum three years experience working with individuals with an Acquired Brain Injury, Intellectual Disability, and/or Developmental Disability

- Minimum three years experience in responding to crisis situations with a variety of individuals in a healthcare and/or community based setting

- Experience working in a leadership role in a healthcare and/or community based setting

- Experience working with homeless shelters and/or with individuals that have been homeless is an asset

ABILITIES:

- Demonstrated knowledge of issues faced by individuals in acute mental health/addiction distress and by individuals with severe mental health illness.

- Knowledge of community services and mental health, addiction treatment and support programs.

- Demonstrated knowledge and competence in the application of treatment modalities to support individuals with serious mental illness and/or addiction.

- Participates in team building, service development and improvement activities that contribute to a healthy workplace environment.

- Proven ability to practice independently using excellent organizational, problem solving and milieu management skills.

- Demonstrate clinical competence and leadership ability.

- Ability to deal with conflict and implement conflict resolutions.

- Knowledge of mental health reform and values, principles of recovery, Mental Health Act, PHIPPA, Health care consent Act and Public Hospitals Act.

- Knowledge of the Criminal Justice System within Ontario, Child and Family Services Act, Provincial Offenses Act, and Criminal Code of Canada.

- Demonstrated ability to independently conduct formal mental health and addiction assessment, short term crisis counseling and referral

- Ability to identify and mobilize resources in crisis situations. To act confidently and independently in the formulation of future interventions and to appreciate the client’s role in decision making, where appropriate.

- Personal transportation and hold a valid Ontario driver’s license.

- Auto endorsement insurance for the purposes of patient transportation

- Demonstrated ability to complete treatment plans and crisis plans with the client, community partners and colleagues.

- Ability and willingness to travel to clients’ homes, independently or in the company of local police services to complete assessments and to independently provide assessment to local ER physicians and physicians in offices when required.

- Self-directed, motivated team player with a commitment to ongoing professional development and continuing education.
