Reservations and Guest Experience Specialist (Full-Time, Year Round) Job at Spirit of the West Adventures

We are looking for someone who is passionate about the outdoors and who also enjoys computer-based work. As a Reservations and Guest Experience specialist, you understand that having someone choose Spirit of the West for their hard-earned vacation takes being a good listener who responds to questions promptly and effectively and who builds confidence in our offerings. Every day, you’re helping guests select the tour that best suits their needs and interests, completing the reservations process, helping them get prepared for their tour, ensuring their specific needs are taken care of while on tour, and following up post-trip. As the first point of contact for all guests, you must be able to communicate effectively via email and phone. You’re organized, always thinking ahead, and happy to help out where needed.

Work can be remote in the non-operational season but will require on site work on Quadra Island, BC between (May- October).

Areas of Responsibility

Your main goal is to assist guests with reservations and then support them before and after tours. To reach this goal, you are responsible for:

  • Tracking and following up with inquiries
  • Supporting guest reservations and questions as they prepare for their tour
  • Managing guest information and trip details
  • Engaging with a variety of team and individual task based projects, such as supporting communications, updating manuals and helping with sales campaigns and content
  • Supporting the base and summer staff with various tour preparation tasks
  • Contributing to and nurturing a positive, team-oriented working environment

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Personal experience in the outdoors (kayaking and camping experience an asset)
  • Experience with sales, customer service and reservations
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills (fluent English required)
  • Comfortable with digital technology and desire to continue to learn and engage with digital products e.g. Google Suite, Outlook, Slack, project management software (Asana or similar), CRM (Hubspot or similar etc.)
  • Proficient at working with Google Workspace: Drive, Docs, Sheets etc
  • Proficient in data entry and spreadsheets
  • Highly organized, thrives in a self-directed environment with the ability to pivot as needed
  • Excellent time management skills with the ability to multitask and prioritize
  • Able to build and maintain positive, professional relationships with clients and colleagues
  • Be willing to work weekends (year-round) and evenings (during summer months)
  • Drivers license (willingness and ability to get class 4 license if required)
  • Knowledge and understanding of the sea kayak industry (not required but considered an asset)

Remuneration & Benefits (based on 40 hrs/week or pro-rated to amount worked)

  • $24 - $27/hour for qualified applicants who are able to meet all of the duties and responsibilities as outlined above
  • 4% vacation pay on all wages (in lieu of paid vacation time)

Spirit of the West Adventures is based on Quadra Island, BC the traditional unceded territory of the We Wai Kai people. Quadra is a beautiful remote, rural community of approximately 3000 year-round residents. Expect rent to range from $800- $1500/month for most types of accommodation or for the hearty types we do have a few staff camping spots. A car or willingness to bike in all sort of conditions on a hilly island are required as there is no public transportation
