About the position:

Reporting to the Recreation Therapist the Recreation Therapy Assistant assists in programs for residents, clients and families of all ages in the residential hospice environment. The Recreation Therapy assistant will also have the opportunity to design, facilitate and implement program plans. The recreation Therapy Assistant will gain experience in developing care plans and written documentation skills.

This position is located in Newmarket. The successful candidate is required to work onsite and will work at both locations.

Eligibility:

This position is funded by the Government of Canada, under the Canada Summer Jobs (CSJ) Program. To be eligible for any CSJ position, the candidate must be:

  • Between 15 and 30 years of age (inclusive) at the start of employment; and
  • A Canadian Citizen, permanent resident, or person on whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act.

The successful candidate for this position must possess the following qualifications:

  • Enrollment in or graduation from a post-secondary program (diploma or degree) in Therapeutic Recreation is an asset.
  • Strong interpersonal skills required to succeed in a collaborative, team-oriented working environment.
  • Experience working with vulnerable or high risk populations including palliative care, seniors or adults with various abilities is an asset.
  • Maintain effective communication with residents, clients, families, volunteers and staff members.
  • Develop therapeutic relationships with residents, clients and family members.
  • Provide direction and support to hospice volunteers in Recreation Therapy programs.
  • Assist in the delivery of goal-oriented programs and services to meet the leisure related needs of clients.
  • Successfully complete Vulnerable Sector Screening check.

Wage: $16.50 per hour

Schedule: 35 hours per week, for 8 weeks
