Project Manager, Programs

Jays Care is looking for a passionate individual with a drive for seeing positive change for youth facing barriers in Canada. The Project Manager will be responsible for guiding the strategic visioning, implementation, and evaluation of exceptional sport for development programming across the country, both virtually and in-person. While the portfolio of this role will change year to year, the first year of the role will focus on the day-to-day management of small staff teams that are responsible for the following three core programs:

  • Top of the First – Most baseball and softball associations have adopted new Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion policies in response to growing awareness across the country regarding inequity and racism. While these policies are designed to help make associations more inclusive, the training and tools required to turn this into practice are hard to find. With significant support and guidance from DE&I experts, Anima Leadership, and Dr. Janelle Joseph, TBJ and JCF created a dynamic virtual certificate program called Top of the First. The three-part live, virtual and free workshop series offered a combination of training, tools, and professional development credits to coaches, league administrators, officials, and adult volunteers. The program is designed to equip participants with clear action plans, tools, and enhanced skills for creating more equitable, inclusive, and accessible programming. The series was launched and pilot tested from February 2nd to June 2nd in 2022. In 2023, we are looking for this Manager to help design and pilot test 5 more intensive consultations with 5 Associations across the country.

  • Youth Justice Program - In 2018, Jays Care Foundation began facilitating three-day sport for development workshops in seven Youth Justice Facilities across Canada. The workshops aimed to provide youth in the youth justice system an opportunity to get active and participate in Jays Care baseball programming. We quickly noticed through engagement and post-workshop feedback, that youth and facility staff really appreciated the additional programming and opportunities that these visits afforded. We wondered, however, how we could extend the experience so that youth could have more opportunities to engage with Jays Care throughout the year. In 2023, we are looking to build and establish a refined vision and approach to our work in Youth Justice Centres that has longevity, sustainability and a lasting impact.
  • Cross Country CelebrationIn 2022, the Jays Care team travelled across the country to visit partners and learn more about their experiences, to lead celebratory programming for children and youth, and to officially open a series of fields built with Jays Care support. Over four months, the team made 22 trips, including 113 different programming events and reaching 6,186 youth. In 2023, we are looking for this Manager to work alongside another Manager on the team to plan the second year of this Celebration anchoring trips around Field of Dreams openings and multi-school Jamborees. Working in a team, this role will involve helping to build a vision for these trips, selecting and training the trip teams, liaising with partners involved in the celebration and managing the budget and the impact of each trip.

  • Other projects as assigned – There are a wide variety of additional projects that require staff help from across the team. These include but are not limited to:

  • organizing and packing winter hampers for families struggling with poverty;
  • designing and leading virtual training workshops for front-line staff;
  • leading and supporting a variety of large-scale events at Rogers Centre and across Toronto including Jamborees, tournaments, fun days and book fairs;
  • supporting youth retreats at various camps (ie. Rookie League Selects, James Bay Girls At Bat retreat);
