About the role

We are offering Graduate roles in Diavik Diamond Mines, Lac de Gras Mine Site, Northwest Territories.

Reporting to Project Controls Senior Advisor, the Project Controls Graduate Engineer will support the coordination of effective project controls systems (estimating, planning, cost engineering and risk management) to forecast and monitor major and minor projects.

The Project Controls Graduate will have an opportunity to provide planning, scheduling, cost and risk management functions for the progressive reclamation and closure feasibility works. The main responsibilities may include:

  • Support the weekly schedule & monthly updates in Primavera P6.
  • Support the review of actual and forecast project costs and key performance metrics
  • Support Monthly financial transactions
  • Support the project measurement system and commodity reports generation
  • Support weekly and monthly reporting
  • Support with the project risk register.
  • Support with planning and control of Pre-Feasibility and Feasibility studies and schedules.
  • Actively participate in site safety processes.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

The schedule is a 2 weeks on /2 weeks off rotation that includes working weekends and holidays. The rotations will consist of 12-hour daily shifts. You will be flown in/out of the Diavik site from Yellowknife or Edmonton for your shifts and all accommodation and meals are included in camp.

What you will bring:

The Project Controls Graduate Engineer must have the following:

  • Bachelor or master’s degree completed in 2021, 2022 or by August 2023 in CIVIL, CIVIL/GEOTECHNICAL or MINING ENGINEERING or related field
  • Less than two years of relevant work experience (local and international)
  • Right to work in Canada
  • Previous experience or familiarity with Primavera P6 and project controls processes is an asset.
  • Highly self-motivated.
  • Outstanding organizational and participative skills.
  • Excellent communication skills are required to liaise with consulting engineers, contractors, and management.
  • Results oriented and committed with the team.
  • Expert in Excel, V-lookups, Pivot Tables and Macros.
  • An undergraduate level course in financial accounting and / or fundamentals of project management and / or construction planning and scheduling will be an additional asset.

Where will you be working

The Diavik Diamond Mine, in Canada’s Northwest Territories, is located on a 20 square kilometer island, called East Island, in Lac de Gras, a lake located 300 kilometers northeast of Yellowknife. It is 100 kilometers north of the tree line and 210 km south of the Arctic Circle. Workers at the mine site commute to the island by plane.
