Responsibilities

  • Provide guidance and direction to dispatch and the yard coordinator.
  • Verify equipment and driver availability at the start of the shift – complete truck report daily and forward to the Operations Manager.
  • Follow/develop action plans for when service KPI’s are not meeting the required targets.
  • Resolve any customer complaints and/or special requests.
  • Follow up on previous days issues and develop action plans for improvement on service failures.
  • Ensure employees are recognized for meeting goals
  • Ensure that progressive discipline is followed when goals are not met by individuals.
  • Enforce rules and procedures as set forth by all regulatory requirements and the company.
  • Train and educate new and existing dispatchers on all processes and functions.
  • Evaluate the efficiency of existing processes and make recommendations as required.
  • Monitor, evaluate and supervise corrective actions.
  • Monitor and provide employee evaluation to the Operations Manager.
  • Must ensure all employees are instructed in safe work practices and that work is carried out in safe manner.
  • Must act on reported unsafe acts and conditions, accidents and injuries and inform employees of the existence of any potential or actual risk to their Health and Safety.
  • Ensure we act with respect, courtesy and professionalism towards our peers, drivers, fellow suppliers, and our customers.
  • Perform any other related tasks as assigned or required by the Operations Manager
  • Monday to Friday Schedule 18:00 to 23:00 (must be flexible to work alternate shifts if required)

Requirements

  • Must have 1-3 years experience in a similar role in the transportation industry.
  • AS400 experience is an asset.
  • Good communication skills – both oral and written including telephone etiquette.
  • Professional and safe attitude
  • Flexible to work in shifts (8-12 hours daily) - based on 40 hour work week
  • Experience with customers, drivers, central dispatch, the dock and other terminals.
  • Strong coach and mentor who can provide support and guidance to people to encourage them to be their best, which includes being able to identify both positive behaviors and provide respectful constructive feedback on performance concerns
  • Knowledge of industry laws and regulations, including WHMIS, TDG, Hours of service
  • Identifies and resolves problems proactively and in a timely manner
  • Looks for ways to proactively improve and promote safety
  • Ability to effectively train others and sees themselves responsible for the safety performance of those they have trained
  • Flexibility due to working in different shifts
  • Knowledgeable in the MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Strong interpersonal and human relation skills.

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Salary: $65,000.00 per year

Schedule:

  • 8 hour shift

Supplemental pay types:

  • Bonus pay
