The Peace River Regional District includes four electoral areas and seven member municipalities, with a total population of approximately 60,000, covering a vast 120,000 square kilometer area.

Position Overview
The PRRD is eager to welcome an enthusiastic, motivated, and team-orientated individual for the full time Planner 3 position in either the Dawson Creek or Fort St. John offices, or for a remote work position.

The remote work option will be for a trial period of 1 year, at which time its effectiveness will be reviewed.

Duties
Reporting to the Planning Services Manager or designate, this professional position will be responsible for coordinating and efficiently processing current and complex land use development matters. The Planner 3 duties also include:

  • Leading and managing the processing of land use applications under the Local Government Act, Agricultural Land Commission Act, or other statutes and regulations, i.e., official community plan amendments, rezoning, temporary use permits; development variance permits, development permits, etc.,
  • assisting and/or leading strategic policy and land use initiatives that include, but are not limited to; bylaw reviews and updates include the Official Community Plans, Zoning Bylaws, Subdivision and Development servicing, etc.
  • may be requested to act in a supervisory or project management role for complex files or projects which may involve; leading Planning staff, GIS, or other departments for project deliverables.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have a University degree in land use planning, geography or related field from an accredited Canadian university and a minimum of five years of professional planning experience, preferably within a municipality or regional district; or a Master’s degree in land use planning, geography or related field, from an accredited Canadian university and a minimum of three years of professional planning experience, preferably within a municipality or regional district.

Additional Information

The hours of work are Monday to Friday, from 8:30 am – 4:30 pm, with one hour for lunch. The after probation rate of pay for this union position is $47.82/hr, plus benefits.
