Occupational Therapist
Purpose

As AdaptAbilities’ new Occupational Therapist, you will consult across all AdaptAbilities’ programs in the effective development, implementation, and monitoring of OT treatment plans and interventions. The entrepreneur in you will shine, creating initiatives to grow this new area of our organization. Occupational Therapy will be utilized to remove barriers to increase program participation, facilitate community inclusion, enhance independence, and foster growth by achieving participant-led goals. Key Functions
  • Collaborate and build capacity with Program Supervisors, their teams, families, and participants.
  • Strengthen and increase program delivery competencies and capacity by contributing to participant program planning focusing on individual needs and removing barriers to inclusion
  • Provide clinical supervision to University of Alberta O.T practicum students
  • Assess and identify difficulties in fine motor, visual motor, self-regulation sensory integration/processing
  • Advise and teach on the use of adaptive equipment to help participants with daily activities
  • Report on progress of identified participants in the key areas of essential life skills, fine motor skills, gross motor development, socialization, play skills and behavior in conjunction with other members of the team
  • Write programs that can be modelled to caregivers and support team to generalize interventions to other environments
  • Develop training videos building capacity across the team
  • Lead and manage programs maximizing Orange Hub specialized rooms (i.e., sensory gym and Snoezelin room) and key human resources
  • Perform other job-related activities as required
Qualifications
  • Masters of Science in Occupational Therapy with specialization in assessment and treatment of fine motor, visual motor and perceptual difficulties
  • Registration with the Alberta College of Occupational Therapy
  • Knowledge of typical developmental milestones, developmental diagnoses, neurological conditions and sensory processing is strongly recommended with children and adults
  • 1-3 years of experience successfully supporting individuals with developmental and physical disabilities
  • Clear Police Information Check and Intervention Record Check
  • Certification in Non-Violent Crisis Intervention
Compensation Package Starting at $37.50/hour and up depending on experience and education.

Working Conditions
This is a one-year contract position offering a flexible work week with the occasional evening and weekend. This position reports to the Program Manager. We will consider a job share arrangement.
