Position Overview:
Kensington Gardens is seeking full-time Day Shift and Night Shift Nurse Managers who has experience in Long Term Care and enjoy working in a team environment.
Responsibilities include:
- Liaises with family members as necessary and deals with concerns and issues. Refers concerns as necessary to the DOC.
- Promote the philosophy and practices of resident centeredness and humanizing in all resident encounters and decisions.
- Empower the Personal Care staff with the responsibility to plan effective care for each resident with resident input.
- Evaluates personal care staff through performance appraisal. Recognizes staff performance as necessary.
- Supports management/employee conflict resolution. Participates in the process of labour management, as necessary.
- Monitors modified work programs for the personal care department and liaise with the Supervisor of Health and Safety as necessary.
- Communicates with the Staffing Coordinator to ensure staff appears for duty and all positions are filled on each shift. Replaces staff as necessary.
- Responsible to the Director of Care (DOC) for the monitoring, leadership and provision of resident care and services of assigned Resident Home Areas (RHA).
- Monitors the resident’s record for accuracy and completeness as required by the professional licensing standards and in accordance with the Ministry of Health as provided in the Long-Term Care Homes Act, 2007.
- Monitors the medication and treatment routines including the delivery of skin and wound care utilizing best practice. Communicates findings and actions to the DOC.
- Performs audits to collect and support data as necessary.
- Ensures health-related equipment and supplies are provided to the RHAs. Provides input to the DOC as to prioritization of need for purchase of new equipment.
- Ensure compliance with the Resident’s Bill of Rights. Respects spiritual, cultural and ethnic aspects of a resident’s life.
Required Skills and Abilities:
- Demonstrates an understanding of current trends and concepts relative to professional Nursing.
- Exceptional oral and written communications skills.
- Excellent performance accountability with an overall commitment to KHC’s Accountability Framework.
Required Knowledge and Experience:
- Minimum of two years’ experience in long term care setting is an asset.
- Minimum of one (1) year management experience.
Required Professional Designation/Certificate:
- RN with a current certificate of competence from the College Nurses of Ontario.
- Current membership with Gerontological Nursing Association (GNA) and Registered Nurses’ Association of Ontario (RNAO) is preferred.

- Based on experience + competative benefits package
- $5,000 Signing bonus.

- Personal protective equipment (PPE):
- Masks must be worn at all times except when eating (new masks are provided when mask becomes soiled).
- Eye protection (goggles or face shield) required whenever within 6 feet of a resident or there is potential that they will be within 6 feet of the resident.
- Gowns provided when entering the room of an isolated resident (most likely not applicable for this position). - N95 required when in contact with positive residents.
- Social distancing, floor marks and room signage.
- Increased hand hygiene.
- Enhanced cleaning of high touch areas.
- Cohorting staff.
- Audits- universal masking, donning, and doffing, 4 moments of hand hygiene.
- Infection control training.
- Staff who are ill, who come in contact with an ill person, or travelled, are not permitted to report for work and must isolate until cleared by Occupational Health or Toronto Public Health.
- Any positive staff or resident cases are reported to Toronto Public Health who directs on interventions that we must be implemented.
