Reporting to the VP of National Operations, the successful candidate will be responsible for the management of all functions related to transportation for the company. These functions related to transportation includes dry vans and containers, bulk delivery tankers, and railcars as well as shipping and receiving tasks and more. This role is responsible for developing and implementing strategies that will maximize performance operating in the food industry while maintaining a safe and reliable fleet. Cost effective asset procurement, management and maintenance strategies are required to ensure operations are in compliance with applicable municipal, provincial and federal transportation regulations.

Your regular activities will include:
Developing and directing transportation processes and establishing ongoing improvement plans for freight management, vendor routing, and carrier management from a national approach
Developing and implementing procedures, and monitoring performance metrics for transportation, shipping and receiving
Negotiating and managing service level contracts/agreements for third party carriers/suppliers and/or service providers to ensure services are delivered as promised
Managing and supporting the national logistics team with daily transportation functions such as; coordinating driving personnel, vehicles, loads, and journeys
Collaborating with purchasing departments in request for proposal (RFP), and requesting for quote (RFQ) processes
All fleet licensing and IFTA requirements and renewals
Creating, monitoring, and reporting on weekly and monthly logistics key performance indicators
Organizing staff training, staff development, and performance reviews
Communicating, following, and enforcing the company’s safety policies
Main Lead/contact for all fleet accidents and incidents. Liaise with required parties from inception of occurrence through investigation, reporting, corrective action, follow-up and final close out

The successful candidate should enter the position with the following qualifications:

University degree in business, with a focus on transportation, and supply chain management
5+ years of direct management experience in transportation and/or logistic functions, in a fast-pace consumer products environment
5+ years in managing fleet safety and driver compliance, CVOR and MTO Highway Traffic Act
A trusted leader who can build relationships with staff and customers in order to grow and sustain a profitable business
A Canadian Institute of Traffic and Transportation (CITT) designation or an equivalent is an asset
Ability to Lead and support fleet accident investigations
Investigate and resolve customer complaints regarding services of product or personnel
Class 1 or AZ driver’s license considered an asset. Class G driver’s license is required
Manage monthly expenses within budget guidelines
Familiar with Food Industry Standards such as BRC, SQF
Direct working knowledge of operations and transportation management
Experience in managing third-party transportation and logistics providers
Strong financial and business awareness
Strong negotiating skills
Ability to manage projects
Ability to prioritize and multitask
Familiarity with using ELD and navigation systems: Omnitracs
Be available for on-call after regular working hours

Along with the above qualifications, the successful candidate must have excellent interpersonal and communication skills. They should have excellent analytical and problem-solving skills along with critical thinking skills. They must be a team player. Strong customer service skills along with written and verbal skills are required to communicate with all levels of the organization and external partners.
