We are currently seeking a Mining Supervisor to join our Production Team at our Goderich Salt Mine site in Goderich, Ontario. This is not a fly in / fly out position.

The Goderich Mine is located 1,800 feet under Lake Huron on the shores of Goderich, Ontario. It is the largest underground salt mine in the world and has been operating since 1959. This location employs over 500 people and annually produces 6.5 million tons of highway de-icing salt and chemical salt. It is transports product to customers around the Great Lakes and along the St. Lawrence Seaway via vessel, rail and roads. The salt is also used to make plastics, detergents, disinfectants, and other important products.

Goderich is named Canada’s Prettiest Town and is best known for its stunning sunsets. Goderich is a lakeside community of 8,000 people located approximately 1 hour from London & Stratford, Ontario and a 1 ½ hour drive from Kitchener-Waterloo.


The Mining Supervisor is accountable for the safe, efficient and quality of work performed by the Mining Team. The Supervisor must be capable of modifying the shift's plan as required and ensuring the maximization of resources.


How will you contribute to the team?

  • Ensure that their crew members know and follow the company’s policies, procedures and standards for work and safety, and the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations for Mines and Mining Plants.
  • Set and achieve production targets in accordance with the company’s stated goals and objectives.
  • Direct service, production and development personnel and equipment to maximize their performance and production. This includes the assignment of equipment and the supervision of its use and working condition.
  • Maintain an accurate shift log for the purpose of communicating reliable production and safety information, as required. The log will include explanation for the variances from target.
  • Perform weekly and monthly safety audits as well as promote and monitor the use of Safety Systems and Tools.
  • Comply and execute their responsibilities in adherence to the Collective Agreement including fair and just discipline consistent with company policies and manage Stage 1 grievances.
  • Ensure Mine Rescue personnel are made available for training, as scheduled.
Qualifications


You bring to the role:

  • Requires a bachelor’s degree or equivalent education and experience and a minimum of 4 years of experience, with 2 years of supervisory experience.
  • A highly organized, structured approach to executing their responsibilities with a strong commitment to safety.
  • Systematic decision making and ability to prioritize and quickly reallocate resources in order to achieve targets.
  • Strong communication skills, ability to positively impact an unionized environment with competing priorities and a high level of cultural awareness and sensitivity.
  • Preferred:
    • Supervisory experience in an unionized environment
    • Mining Common Core and a minimum of 5 years mining experience
    • Knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Mining Regulations
    • Supervisory Common Core
    • Previous Technologist experience or as a Mine Supervisor.

How Often Are You Here?

  • 28-day 12-hour rotating schedule including day and night shifts.
  • This position will be expected to work underground.
  • If you do not live nearby, you will be required to relocate. Relocation package available to those that qualify.
