Rainy River Mine
Situated in beautiful northwestern Ontario, 65 km northwest of Fort Frances, the Rainy River Mine is an open pit, gold and silver producing, residential mine site.
The Rainy River Mine, located adjacent to the Ontario / Minnesota border is 65 Kilometers northwest of Fort Frances, Ontario and is situated half way between Winnipeg, Manitoba and Thunder Bay, Ontario The area is home to more than 130 species of birds and large populations of moose, black bear and deer. If you enjoy outdoor activities including hunting, fishing, winter sports and lake country then this is an area you will love to live and work in.
Applicants who reside in Northwestern Ontario and have experience working in a cross-cultural environment, coupled with knowledge of the unique challenges and opportunities presented to those living in the Northwest Ontario, are assets. Position Reports To: Senior Mine Supervisor
Position Overview
The Mine Roads and Dumps Supervisor plays an integral part ensuring the mine operations is operated effectively and safely in day-to-day operations of the road and dumps operations in the open pit. This position works closely with the Senior Mine supervisor to plan, organize, and control mine activities. The supervisor is assigned to a crew and will work the same shift schedule as their crew. Preference will be given to local applicants or candidates who are willing to relocate to the area.
Key Responsibilities
Oversee and manage the Roads and Dumps Surface Miners, ensuring efficient mine operations
Ensure that mining production targets, schedules and priorities for the Mining teams are safely achieved.
Ensure all safety KPI’s are met and recorded on time
Ensure all crew members adhere to all business policies including but not limited to attendance, sick leave, and vacation.
Plan, organize and control daily mining activities in alignment with the overall Mining plan.
Ensure that the mine produces at the lowest possible cost while achieving planned targets.
Ensure Mining teams are informed of priorities and any changes to priorities.
Maintain safety and environmental systems consistent with business policies
Regularly tour and inspect the Mine to identify and address any health and safety, environmental, production, equipment, and employee issues.
Collaborate with the Mine Technical, Maintenance, and Contractor teams to efficiently execute mining plans.
Provide assistance to the HR team and ownership in the hiring of Mine employees.
Engage and lead the mine operating teams in a Zero Harm, open communication, and continuous improvement culture.
Ensure employees have a clear understanding of work objectives and expectations of performance levels.
Ensure that direct reports are provided with the training required for their current tasks and future needs.
Collaborate with HR for Employee Relations & Investigations
Ensure all incidents are entered in INX in a timely manner
Manage and enter leave and exceptions reporting & updating rosters
Qualifications
A minimum of 7 years mining experience or equivalent industrial type environment with demonstrated leadership ability
Must have drilling, blasting, and / or road and mud dump development experience
Solid understanding and experience of open pit mining practices and equipment capabilities
Solid working knowledge and understanding of safety and environmental requirements and of mining procedures
Good understanding and working knowledge of the applicable legislation and regulations for mines
Have or able to obtain Ontario Surface Mining Common Core Modules
Have or able to obtain Ontario Generic Supervisor Common Core Modules
Well-developed planning, problem solving, decision making, interpersonal, communication and organization skills
Work in a team environment to meet deadlines
