JOB BRIEF:

A well-established manufacturing company serving the high voltage electrical transmission industry is looking for a motivated engineer to manage and conduct our portfolio of engineering tasks. Our clients include utility companies and utility construction companies around the world. The company enjoys a solid reputation at home as well as around the world. Reporting directly to the General Manager, this new position will be based out of our head office in Markham, ON, Canada with flexible/hybrid working options available, and will be responsible for several exciting engineering projects.

POSITION DETAILS:

We are looking for an experienced Mechanical or Civil engineer who can perform a variety of engineering tasks including drawings, part design, analysis, simulations, testing, report preparation etc.
The job involves ability to work on exciting projects within the utility sector and travel to client sites to perform engineering design training – this could involve travel to exciting new locations!

Work Location:

  • Either Brechin, ON or Markham, ON
  • Hybrid – minimum 3 days a week on site required
  • Some travel may be required to client sites.

Vacation: 2 weeks/year after 3-month probationary period

Benefits: Full after 3-month probationary period

Start Date: Immediate

RESPONSIBILITIES:

You will be responsible for conducting a variety of tasks, including, but not limited to:

  • Performing structural design and analysis of guyed-mast towers using PLS-CADD Lite and PLS-

Pole

  • Preparing engineering calculations and reports for proposals, public tenders and RFPs.
  • Working with the Purchasing Manager to review and approve new suppliers and technical specifications
  • Conduct finite element analysis, part design and analysis of various components that are part of an emergency restoration kit.
  • Prepare, review, and approve engineering drawings using Solidworks.
  • Conduct engineering design training for clients using PLS-CADD Lite and PLS-Pole. This could be remote but is typically at client site.
  • Participate in R&D activities; prepare annual SR&ED claims.
  • Prepare test procedures, participate in mechanical design and testing, and write test reports.
  • Perform other engineering tasks as required.
  • Attend conferences and trade shows as required.

EXPERIENCE & SKILLS REQUIRED:

The ideal candidate has:

  • 2 years of experience in structural design and analysis.
  • Experience with Solidworks or AutoCAD
  • Utility experience is an asset
  • Proficiency in PLS-CADD and PLS-Pole is an asset.
  • Microsoft Office Suite proficiency
  • Experience preparing engineering packages for public tenders or RFPs an asset.

REQUIRED EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or Civil Engineering

Candidates with experience in the electrical utilities industry, and who are bi- or tri-lingual (English,
French, and Spanish) will be prioritized.

Candidates must be physically present in and legally authorized to work in Canada.

Salary:

Salary is between $70,000 and $90,000 commensurate with the education and skills of the candidate.
