Position Summary
This entry-level technical position will be responsible for assisting the Engineering team with supporting Western’s various internal business divisions, including operations and marketing. This position’s main duties include inspection and documentation of rig condition, preparation of 2D and 3D CAD designs and drawings using Autodesk Inventor and AutoCAD, maintenance and updates to the rig equipment specification sheets, preparation of reports, analyses, and other documentation relating to equipment specification or other project requirements.
The successful candidate will be technically minded with a broad range of interests and a diversified skill set. The individual in this role will need to be able to communicate effectively and comfortably with employees of all levels from field-level employees to upper-management. Attention to detail, team-work, and effective multi-tasking in a fast-paced environment are also key attributes. Registration with APEGA/ ASET is mandatory.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Inspection of load-bearing rig structures and creating necessary documentation
• Prepare 2D and 3D rig layouts and proposals using Autodesk Inventor and AutoCAD
• Develop and update rig equipment specifications on a regular basis
• Various data analysis and reporting
• Provide operations and marketing with project management support, as needed
• Liaise frequently with internal and external stakeholders
• Other duties and responsibilities as required

Specific Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a Diploma in Engineering Technology with accompanying relevant experience
• Proficiency with Auto CAD 2D & Inventor 3D modeling
• Registration with APEGA/ ASET is mandatory.
• Familiarity with oil and gas drilling operations is preferred, but not required
• Basic understanding of project management fundamentals
• Demonstrable skills in performing basic analysis and critical thinking
• Effective verbal and written communication skills
• Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office
• Strong work ethic
• Safety conscious

Special Conditions of Employment

• Manual dexterity required to be able to lift and manoeuvre around and on rig equipment
• Ability to lift up to 50lbs
• Overtime as required
• Occasional weekend work will be required
• Occasional field work will be required
• Use of PPE as required
