ABOUT THE POSITION
The Materials Management Lead oversees Nahanni’s needs for parts inventory and supplies by managing vendor relationships, assessing supply needs, and coordinating inventory management at any/all remote project sites across Canada.

SCOPE
The Materials Management Lead is located in Yellowknife on a 3 weeks in/3 weeks out rotation and reports to the Project Manager.

The Giant Mine Site is located within the City of Yellowknife boundary, approximately 1.5 kilometres (km) from the community of Ndilo and 9 km from the community of Dettah.

The Materials Management Lead works independently with minimal supervision and has a moderate degree of decision-making authority.
Reporting Positions

  • Supervision and training of co-op students, remote site inventory clerks, logistics coordinators, when applicable.

RESPONSIBILITIES
The Materials Management Lead is responsible for supporting the success and execution of any/all delegated projects through the clear understanding of the governing Prime Contract, Flow-Downs, Scope, Schedule, and Commercials.

1. Inventory Management

  • Evaluate suppliers based on delivery speed for their products and services, in addition to price and quality.
  • Interview vendors, and where needed, visit suppliers, to examine and learn about prices, products and services.
  • Analyze financial reports, price proposals and other information used to determine reasonable part/tool/material pricing, as assigned.
  • Maintain and review records of inventories, product performance, deliveries, costs, and items purchased.
  • Receive all project related parts, supplies and/or materials prior to being issued to the project available inventory list.
  • Solely responsible for the distribution of parts, supplies and/or materials to project personnel.
  • Jointly monitor and record cement powder deliveries as per waybills received from drivers.
  • Document control and file upload to project SharePoint site
  • Compliance with Transportation of Dangerous Goods reporting requirements for work completed on site.

2. Vendor Business Relationship

  • Maintain an up-to-date list of all vendors that the project has utilized to date.
  • May be requested to negotiate contracts for the organization and develop agreements with suppliers for product delivery.
  • Meet with vendors and staff to discuss unacceptable and defective products and establish corrective action
  • Evaluate and monitor contracts to ensure suppliers and vendors are complying with terms and conditions
  • Attend conferences, trade shows and meetings to network with suppliers and learn about new industry trends

3. Project Communication:

  • Assist the Project Manager with necessary inventory reports to be included in internal project Team and Progress Meetings with the Client and others.
  • Provide daily work plans and traffic routing maps to designated project members.
  • Establish and maintain key internal and external relationships including the staff within the Nahanni team and its subcontractors. Key external relationships include representatives of Parsons and any additional client site representatives.

4. Project Planning/Schedule:

  • Assist the Project Team by providing input for project schedule updates
  • Prepare support and recommendations for quantity takeoffs.

5. Project Performance Reporting:

  • Supply backup materials management documentation to support monthly invoice submissions.

6. Other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Knowledge of project management processes in a northern context.
  • Knowledge of computer software, including word processing, database, e-mail and project management programs. More specifically, it is considered an asset to be familiar with inventory management software.
  • Mid-level understanding of Managerial, leadership and supervisory skills
  • Interpersonal and communication skills to make convincing and persuasive arguments when dealing with project team members, consultants, and contractors.
  • Project management skills including estimating and financial skills to assist with control of the project.
  • Analytical, problem-solving skills, combined with basic sense and creativity.
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure while working in a high stress environment with tight deadlines.
  • Ability to deal with individuals where there is a high degree of tact and diplomacy required.
  • Ability to analyze the results of studies, assessments, audits, and monitoring programs, with the objective of advising and recommending inventory mitigation strategies.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team setting and cross-cultural environment.
  • Ability to work within budget constraints.
  • Ability to think critically and use good judgment.
  • Ability to exercise authority and manage risks.
  • Ability to research, evaluate, gather, and compile information.

Qualifications

A university degree in a related field and/or 5 years of relevant experience

Salary: $38.00-$42.00 per hour
