The Opportunity

Force is growing and we are seeking dedicated people with a solid work ethic and a desire to learn new skills to put down their career roots with us. We are seeking Lathe Operators for our Grande Prairie, Alberta location. While adhering to standard safety and quality operational policies and procedures, the primary functions of the CNC Operator will be to operate a Computer Numerically Controlled (CNC) machines and/or manual Machines to cut all sizes of threads to an API standard or customer specification for drill pipe, hevi-wate, drill collar, tubing, casing, pups, subs products and general machining.

This position requires a mechanically inclined person with good technical education and the capability of calculating the strength of materials and the resultant of force, as well as for reading drawings and specifications.

Job Requirements

  • Operate CNC and/or Manual lathes and milling machines.
  • Write CNC lathe programs using Gibbs Cam and freehand Mazatrol , Fagor , ISO g code
  • Read and interpret part specifications and blueprints
  • Maintain program library and inventory for each machine
  • Regular equipment clean-up and maintenance according to manufacturer’s specifications
  • Order tooling and offer suggestions for efficiency improvements
  • Adhere to multiple work orders and drawing specifications
  • Quality assurance in accordance to specifications-gauging threads
  • Instrument calibration
  • Report and take direction from Shop Foreman/Manager.
  • Commitment to working safely, within standard policies and procedures
  • 3-year minimum work experience in an industrial setting is required
  • Previous experience with material handling, movement and tool experience
  • Ability to work in a physically demanding environment
  • Ability to meet physical requirements including lifting up to 35 lbs., bending, crouching, kneeling, and standing for extended periods of time
  • Good work ethic and attitude
  • Good mechanical aptitude, with an eye for detail and a willingness to learn
  • Pride in work
  • Honestly report any problem or errors
  • Ability to meet pre-employment testing requirements (i.e. drug and alcohol, physical fitness, audiogram, and vision testing)
  • Possess mechanical aptitude, with an eye for detail and a willingness to learn
  • Valid Class 5 Drivers License (non-GDL). Must be able to travel
  • Punctual, reliable, and willing to work flexible hours including overtime and weekends
  • Have excellent communication skills and the ability to work in a team setting
  • High School Diploma, GED or equivalent is preferred
  • Safety Tickets ie: H2S Alive, Standard 1st Aid, CLTDG, WHMIS

Journeyman Machinist preferred but will look at industry experience or apprentices.
