Job Summary
Reporting to the Director, Pharmacy Program, and working closely with the Pharmacy Operations Coordinator, the manager is an integral member of the Pharmacy Leadership team. The Manager has oversight of the clinical and operational services and technology of the main pharmacy. The Manager ensures that all activities, including compounding are done in compliance with best practice, Controlled Substances Act, NAPRA, the Ontario College of Pharmacists standards, and Accreditation Canada standards.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Pharmacy or entry level PharmD minimum
  • OCP licensed
  • Membership with CSHP and ASHP preferred
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in hospital pharmacy.
  • Minimum of two (2) years recent progressive pharmacy leadership experience
  • Demonstrates a high degree of expertise in clinical, operational, and technological aspects of hospital Pharmacy services.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Ensure Compliance with OCP and Accreditation Canada Standards.
  • Provide exemplary leadership in the management of the program’s human and financial resources, and develops, implements, and manages short- and long-term plans which support and advance program site, and/or corporate strategic priorities.
  • Ensure safe medication practices and implement quality improvement initiatives, when required.
  • Develop, implement and review evidence-based treatment protocols/ guidelines through critical appraisal of the literature and clinical trials and appropriate application of the evidence.
  • Holds signing authority for procurement of controlled substances.
  • Oversees management of medication backorders and drug shortages
  • Oversees the pharmacy involvement in clinical trials.
  • Develops, reviews, and implements policies and procedures.
  • Monitors Non-Formulary Drug use and collaborates on special access requests with the other program leaders.
  • Assesses the need for resources based on management information, which includes workload measurement, productivity reports, patient acuity data and financial reports.
  • Assumes accountability for human resource planning: recruitment, hiring, retention, succession initiatives/plans.
  • Ensure compliance with all policies, guidelines, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
  • Implements Attendance Management (illness, absenteeism, and accommodation).
  • Manages staff and administrative issues i.e. scheduling, vacations etc.
  • Other duties, as assigned.
