Metrolinx is connecting communities across the Greater Golden Horseshoe. Metrolinx operates GO Transit and UP Express, as well as the PRESTO fare payment system. We are also building new and improved rapid transit, including GO Expansion, Light Rail Transit routes, and major expansions to Toronto’s subway system, to get people where they need to go, better, faster and easier. Metrolinx is seeking (3) three Managers, Environmental Management who will be required to champion and act as Advocates for environmental issues, environmental management principles and their practical application for the Enterprise and/or Business Units. They will promote environmental sustainability among staff and stakeholders. Each manager will support one of the following divisions including Bus Services, Rail Operations and Corporate Safety respectively.

What will I be doing?
  • Leads the development and implementation of the Enterprise and/or Business Unit(s) environmental strategies, frameworks and sustainability program in accordance with corporate and legislated environmental standard and collective agreements (where applicable).
  • Oversees the development, implementation and maintenance of policies, procedures and systems in relation to environmental and sustainable practices; tracks and monitors legislation to ensure policies, procedures and operations are compliant and consistent with Metrolinx’ Environmental Management System and best practice.
  • Assesses and advises on environmental impacts of proposed initiatives and identifying appropriate actions to effectively address any issues arising from those assessments.
  • Manages the development of environmental sustainability awareness campaigns to promote initiatives such as energy reduction, waste reduction, and recycling schemes.
  • Leads environmental compliance reporting and mitigation for function, quality, schedules, reporting, and approvals in coordination with internal and external authorities
  • Develops and maintains positive relationship with the Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks (MoECP) to collaborate, exchange information, and maintain current knowledge of policies and legislation.
  • Provides senior leadership oversight and direction to staff and project teams (e.g. defines team member roles, responsibilities, and expectations); delivers timely feedback to ensure a cohesive operational unit and the optimum use of team skills.
What Skills and Qualifications Do I Need?
  • Completion of an undergraduate degree (Masters’ degree an asset) in environmental science or a related discipline – or a combination of education, training and experience deemed equivalent.
  • Minimum eight (8) years’ experience in environmental management.
  • Project management methodologies to lead and manage simultaneous projects to tight deadlines (i.e. to manage the implementation of environmental initiatives) and monitor project activities for adherence to timelines and project performance objectives.
  • Vendor and contract management, negotiation, and influencing skills to manage and oversee the work of consultants.
  • Driving requirements – Driving to facilities and other locations, as required; requires a valid drivers’ license.
