The Opportunity: Maintenance Superintendent

Reporting to the Plant Manager, the Maintenance Superintendent is responsible for safe and successful leadership and overall maintenance and reliability performance of the plant in accordance with the strategic direction set by the company.

Leading the Maintenance department, the Superintendent works closely with operational management, supervisory staff and employees to ensure a high level of safety, quality and performance. This position will be responsible for planning, implementing and controlling all programs and procedures related to maintenance of mechanical and electrical equipment, including PLC’s, and ensuring compliance to respective safety codes. Maintaining the equipment and plant to a high standard of cleanliness is an integral part of the safety culture of the organization.

The Superintendent develops and supports the maintenance supervisors, lead hands, trades employees, including apprentices, and contractors, providing coaching and mentorship and leveraging individual and team strengths to develop and grow team capacity. This role champions and leads a ‘safety first’ work culture and fosters a respectful workplace environment that engages people in the pursuit of organizational goals and accountability.

Integral to this role will be a strong maintenance background with 2-5 years’ experience in a Maintenance Supervisor role leading a multi-faceted maintenance team, knowledge of electrical programming systems, maintenance management systems, process control and familiarity with the lumber manufacturing process and sawmill maintenance. Playing a significant role in planning maintenance and projects, candidates will have strong process, project planning experience and documentation skills.

The successful candidate will be an exceptional leader, excellent communicator and team player, will have the ability to work well with others at all levels, build trust, and strong relationships, as well as have strong analytical and technical skills, a relentless commitment to safety and the capability to create, articulate and garner broad support for a vision.
