The Town of Qualicum Beach is seeking applications for the position of Labourer on a permanent full-time basis.

Duties include:

• Garbage collection
• Assist in maintaining Town owned roads, boulevards, sidewalks, facilities and other municipal infrastructure
• Airport duties including daily checks, maintenance and clean up
• Operate various Town vehicles and equipment such as pickups, backhoe, tractors, mowers, trimmers
• Set up/take down and other general labour duties for special events
• Other related duties as assigned

Required qualifications include:

• Completion of Grade 12
• A demonstrated aptitude for maintenance and construction work in a Municipal environment
• Experience in equipment operation in relation to Municipal construction and maintenance work
• Ability to use a computer including Microsoft Office applications
• A valid Class 5 Driver’s License with a safe driving record
• Physical capability to safely complete continuous manual labour (e.g., bending, shoveling, lifting, pushing/pulling, etc.) in all weather conditions
• Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, particularly when dealing with the public
• Demonstrated ability to work as a part of a team as well as independently
• Knowledge of safety rules and regulations with a proven track record of working safely

Additional qualifications that would be considered an asset include:

• Airbrake Certification
• Class III driver’s license
• Certifications in Equipment Operation, Fall Arrest, Confined Space, Chainsaw Operation etc.

Note: an equivalent combination of education, experience, and knowledge will be considered if deemed acceptable by the employer.

The terms and conditions of employment are covered by the CUPE Local 401 Collective Agreement. The rate of pay is $29.93/hr ($30.53/hr effective July 01, 2023) Successful applicants will be expected to work 40 hours/week and shifts will include both weekend days.
