What can I expect to do in this role?

  • provide policy research and data analysis support by researching and collecting information from various sources (e.g. policies and programs, Statistics Canada, CMHC)
  • analyze and evaluate policy and program information and conduct quantitative data analysis, including data visualizations, to identify issues and trends
  • work collaboratively with staff to prepare a wide range of reports, options papers, briefing materials and draft materials for decision documents
  • develop and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external partners
  • prepare various correspondence, information, presentation and questions and answer materials for internal and external use
  • design and implement data collection methodologies (e.g., surveys) to support policy/program development, delivery and evaluation
  • apply data analytics, exploratory practices such as data mining, geospatial analysis, development of relational databases, data visualization


How do I qualify?

Technical Skills

  • You know how to conduct quantitative and qualitative data analysis
  • You know how to use standard computer applications and are familiar with statistical and data visualization software to extract and manipulate data


Research, Evaluation and Performance Measurement Skills

  • You are able to conduct research and analysis of various information and summarize findings.
  • You can interpret statistical analyses and present research findings.
  • You have knowledge of performance measurement and evaluation theory, principles, practices and implementation
  • You have the ability to identify issues, examine options and provide recommendations based on evidence to support policies developed by senior staff.


Communication, Consultation, and Interpersonal Skills:

  • You can develop reports, policy analyses, data visualizations and briefing notes using computer software and tools
  • You have well-developed presentation skills to communicate information to internal and external clients.
  • You have the ability to consult and collaborate with internal and external clients and stakeholders to exchange and seek information.
  • You have an understanding of team dynamics and best practices for working collaboratively in teams.


Project Management and Organizational Skills:

  • You have knowledge of project management principles and techniques to support the development of a range of policy and program research, analysis and options materials and other activities.
  • You can manage competing deadlines and priorities and meet tight deadlines.
  • You can participate on branch project teams and provide research services and findings.
