Journalist Job at The Brandon Sun
The Brandon Sun is now accepting applications for permanent, full-time reporter-photographer position in our newsroom. This is an entry-level position. We are looking for talented writers who are able to investigate breaking news and produce compelling stories and features for both our online and print products.
Salary for this position is commensurate with experience, as per the Collective Bargaining Agreement. The Brandon Sun also offers a comprehensive and generous suite of benefits.
Our news coverage is based out of the city of Brandon and covers the Westman region, which includes dozens of small and large towns, Indigenous communities and agriculturally-based municipalities. The Sun’s footprint covers a population of more than 120,000 people. Westman is home to countless festivals and popular music concerts that showcase local, national and international artists.
The Brandon Sun is an award-winning newspaper and one of Canada’s leading community dailies. As a member of FP Newspapers, the Brandon Sun is a sister paper to the Winnipeg Free Press and the Steinbach Carillon.
Qualifications
We ask all reporters to be active on social media, have proficiency in still photography, and be comfortable with various forms of multimedia reporting. This position will require occasional evening and weekend work. Prior experience in a daily newsroom is an asset, but we will consider relevant work experience. The ideal candidate may also have some expertise with on-air broadcasting and/or podcasting.
Other qualifications:
- Superior writing skills and strong news judgment.
- Advanced photography and photo editing skills with demonstrated ability and creativity.
- A formal degree or diploma in journalism or related experience.
- Demonstrated ability to cover breaking news
- Outstanding research skills, and excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Possession of a valid driver’s license.
