The District of Tofino is looking for two qualified candidates to fill the casual relief position of Janitorial Labourer Casual.

Under the direct supervision of his/her immediate supervisor the Janitor Labourer is responsible for cleaning District facilities, washrooms, and fleet vehicles. These duties are generally physical in nature and require the use of simple tools, cleaning products and equipment. A criminal record check will be required prior to job start.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Completion of weekly, biweekly, monthly and annual cleaning of District facilities
• Cleaning of public washrooms throughout the District
• Monitoring janitorial and sanitary supplies for all facilities and preparing supply orders
• Carry out Work Orders associated with District facilities
• Keep all janitorial rooms clean, neat and organized at all times
• Occasional carpet cleaning, floor waxing and resealing at various facilities
• Occasional cleaning of District fleet vehicles
• Performing routine tasks including, but not limited to:
• Cleaning and clearing brush, culverts and ditches;
• Weeding and grass cutting;
• Crack and pothole filling;
• Refuse and litter pickup;
• Collection and processing of recycling materials;
• Sweeping and cleaning;
• Painting buildings, roads, signs and structures;
• Unloading and moving of supplies;
• Replacing and installing road traffic signs;
• Hand excavations and backfilling; and,
• Reading water meters and recording data.

HOURS OF WORK

This is a casual relief position. Specific hours and days of work will be scheduled on an as needed basis. The hourly wage for this position is $27.98, plus an additional 15.2% in lieu of benefits, vacation and statutory holidays. This position is subject to a probationary period during which time the wage will be $25.18. This is a union position and is subject to the terms and conditions of the Collective Agreement between CUPE Local 118 and the District of Tofino.
