IT Technician

DESCRIPTION:
Reporting to the IT Supervisor, Client Services the IT Technician provides first level support for the computer users as it relates to the IT infrastructure technologies at Sleeman, including all computer hardware, peripherals, communication devices, desktop operating systems and all standard software (i.e. – Office productivity suites, VPN, etc). Respond to support calls and ensure requests are dealt with appropriately and in accordance with defined policies and procedures. Coordinate and complete hardware refreshes and upgrades according to established plans; and provide support to various projects, as required. This role has a Hybrid Work Model (3 days in office, 2 days at home).
Key Responsibilities Include:
Systems Support
  • Provide first level support for the computer users as it relates to the IT infrastructure technologies, work with clients to determine details related to the request, determine root cause of the issue, communicate this to the client, and correct the issue in a timely manner, liaising with support vendors as required
  • Perform testing and regular servicing of equipment and software
  • Create and maintain documentation, while adhering to Sleeman infrastructure standards
  • Orient clients to new systems or software applications, as required
  • Work with Senior IT Technician or 3rd party to carry out computer lease rollovers
  • Provide support to mobile sales force
Systems Deployments
  • Perform setups of new equipment and/or software and upgrades to existing systems
  • Carry out all technologies requests in accordance with Sleeman IT policies and procedures, with focus on security, business continuity, and performance
  • Plan and execute hardware refresh activities
  • Work with outside consultants/vendors as required
  • Support new project initiatives ensuring all assigned activities are completed as per project plans
Administrative Duties
  • Provide periodic task status updates to the team
  • Enter all issues/tasks assigned into the Issue Tracking System and keep status up to date
  • Practice effective communication to user community
  • Share knowledge of areas of expertise with other members of the team
  • Ensure all solutions are documented based on Sleeman Standards
  • Refer complex issues to Senior IT Technician or other team members, as required
Requirements:
  • Post-secondary education in Computer Science or related field
  • Minimum 1 year of experience as a IT Technician in a corporate environment
  • Working towards technical certification (e.g., ITIL V4, Microsoft, A+) would be considered an asset
  • Good organizational and time management skills; able to prioritize work and meet deadlines
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Logical and detail oriented
  • Good problem solving and analytical skills to determine and resolve issues effectively
  • Able to lift objects up to 30 lbs.
  • Acceptable criminal check
  • Ability to support and project values compatible with the organization
Conditions:
  • Travel may be required
  • Flexibility to work in evening and on weekends as required
